mushrat
I understand no one in Australia drinks Fosters either, all for export.
vendetta_revived
In australia or not, why would anyone want to drink fosters? Haha but I get your point. Though I find it hard to believe that Desi Murli is Indian. The website shows an address in Steger, Illinois, and I believe they make it fresh when you order since there are no preservatives involved, so can't be Indian. Hassouni
Desi however means "from the Des", the Des (or Desh) being the Indian subcontinent - historical India (i.e. including Pakistan and Bangladesh). DM is likely made IN THE STYLE of Indian tobaccos, and given my experience with it, it's pretty dirty/pasty
hookah1
Hi guys, this is Kamal - I run hookah1.com (Desi Murli - DM) and my fathers company is the largest importer of South Asian tobacco (Chewing Tobacco, Snuff, Kimam, Khaini, etc.) in the US. Anyway, we began bringing in DM a few years ago from India based on a customers request. In India, it is made by a family since 1867 - plain traditional shisha that is typically sold to the working classes (like bidis). About 3 years ago I started a dialogue with the company in India about flavored versions (like the brands that are typically consumed in the US) and they said that they had been supplying same under different brands to large users and would be open to supplying my fathers company the mixes (base and various additional spices, flavors, etc to make the final product). So, long story short, you cant find the mixed stuff under the brand name Desi Murli anywhere except in the US. In India you can acquire the traditional base under the same name, but to my knowledge they have not marketed their flavored versions. We recently launched the GOLD version that has an even more "traditional" Indian tobacco base - meaning that it contains saffron and other spices that are in premium chewing tobacco from India (Baba Zarda to name on brand). I hope this explanation helps. Finally, we do import Afzal (tobacco) and Soex (herbal) - Indian shisha brands and are investigating importing Jurak in our next container - the one that has been recommended to us by a few sourcs is Ahmad Jurak - they have 3 types. atalanta
Sounds like you may be able to get your DIRT mushrat! You'll have to see if its the same stuff (then there will be a run from HF to buy it I'm sure LOL) (I read the other post, that was very interesting. Was thinking of taking the pics around to the local indian places - not as many as in north jersey - and see if anyone has a clue) Edited September 2, 2011 by atalanta
