Gleemen
Sorry if this is a repeat post I looked for a similar topic but couldn't find one. I just moved into a new apartment with two friends that don't smoke. I was hoping someone could give me some tips how to keep the smell down from the hookah and to be mindful of them when using the hookah. Thanks for any help! r1v3th3ad
well, if they don't want you to smoke in there, do it in your room. you pay for your room, not them, and can do what ever the hell you want to do in there...I had an issue like that in the past in college. otherwise, the odor doesn't linger too long so you shouldn't have to worry, but they do have those air ionizer doohickies, I heard that they should help. Trini
well to begin with hookah does not for the most part have as much an off putting smell as say a cigar or cigarette, other than than bud just ask them what they are comfortable with they may ask you to only smoke in your room or maybe outside hell they may not have a problem with it at all and want to join in
Chreees
Hookah smoke is not in any way a bother, in my opinion. It actually often fills the room with a pleasant smell more often than not, depending on what brand and flavor you are smoking. Also, after I finish smoking, the smell fully dissipates in a couple of hours. Not like cigarette smoke that lingers forever. Note that if you use quicklights inside, it's worse. Stick with natural coals and you won't have near as many issues. Really you shouldn't have any issues at all. Ask your friends to just let you smoke in the living room just once to show them how it is. Most likely they will realize it's not bad at all and then won't mind you doing it in the future. But if they already have the mindset that it's going to linger and be bad, don't bother. They'll probably still fuss anyway. In that case, do as Pat said- your room. Arcane
Why not just smoke outside?
peaceman27
Like the others said, hookah smoke isn't too bad. Maybe your roomates will be ok with the smell. If not, light some incense. You can even let them help pick it out so you know they like it.
Cp44
either smoke in your room or smoke on the balcony, good thing the smoke from a hookah is not pungent as cigars and cigarettes.
vendetta_revived
My friends who don't smoke absolutely love how the room smells when I smoke! That is how some of them got intrigued and started smoking.
joytron
Firstly I would do whatever you can to make the experience a positive one. I would go out on a limb to reduce tension and if that means not smoking in the living room so be it. If anyone here would have objections to someone smoking cigarettes or NHT in their house (I understand the difference legally, but personal health and hygiene is just as important) than they should be willing to make sacrifices as far as smoking hookah goes. I think instead you should sit down with your roommates before you start smoking give them your reasoning why you feel its appropriate and then hear them out. Even if their beliefs seem illogical to you, try to respect their opinion. Claiming a fallacy to their points generally will only wind them being defensive and closed to hearing your side. Coyote
I second Trini, Chreeeeeees, and Joytron on this one. Have an open discussion without the emotional opinions and reactive states that often come up during conversations regarding different points of view. Worse comes to worse you will just have to smoke in your room. Smoking outside can be a hassle so I personally wouldn't do that unless its a last resort. Plus other people who don't know about hookah smoking might call the cops on you thinking you are breaking the law. Plus its nice to be able to watch movies settle into a nice chair and just RELAX with your smoke... which is what I'm about to do <3 <3 <
kajon
I used to have 3 roommates in college and thankfully they all smoked with me. As everyone else said, ask them if they would mind you smoking in the living room. If they do not, then just be aware of the smell and if anything open a window (I would do this if there were other people that weren't smokers). Again, if they do care then just do it in your room. You know your friends best so ask them nicely and I'm sure there won't be a problem.
Gleemen
Thanks for all the feedback! Smoked with one of my roommates last night and he seemed cool with it. He did say he doesn't think I should smoke in the living room. I enjoy smoking in my room while watching Netflix anyways so I'm cool with that. Thanks for all the helpful feedback! Starwind
Yeah, make sure they know how pleasant the smell of hookah can be. I love the smell of hoookah and pipe tobacco. I actually used to make sure to smoke in my room after I cleaned it because the smell would stay for a good while. It was a very small room though. If they have a problem with the living room after you've been smoking in your room for a bit, I'd invite them in just so they know what it's like.
