Pumpkin Hookah Help

Recommended Posts

hey everyone, i recently bought a pumpkin hookah from hookah-shisha.com that was on clearance. it came in today and i tried it with starbuzz pirate's cave because my friends really loved that flavor. needless to say the experience was awful. it was a complete lack of flavor and pretty airy, and even with coconara coals they tasted a bit "coaly" after several hits of it heating up
this is what i used:

2 coconara coals
ice with majority of the small vase filled up
a small heba diffuser that barely fit (i cut the top so it wouldn't touch the bottom)
standard bowl. it was a deeper bowl which we filled about 3/4 the way
heavy foil...with a grid pattern for the holes

i heard using less water helps too.
should i try using fewer holes or not using the heba diffuser? i also heard people liked using the vortex bowl too. would that make much of a difference?
any tips or suggestions would be great

Well I say skip the diffuser and use more water than ice. The stem needs to only be submerged about 1/2 an inch. I say skip the diffuser because you need to fill it the base higher for it to work properly. Also make sure you pack SB super fluffy and after you put the foil on and pack holes; blow through the bottom to air it out. And also make sure the purge valve is shut and is functional. 2 ccn sounds fine just put them on the edge.

I wouldn't recommend packing your bowl only 3/4 full. If your head is too deep you should find a smaller one. Pack it fluffy to the top, put on the foil, poke some holes, and put on your coals. As far as coals go, make sure they are full lit and glowing red all the way through, start them on the sides of the bowl and move them from the outsides of the head to the inside.everyone so often (idk maybe every 15 minutes depending on how your smoke tastes and how big the clouds are). Water/ice in the vase? I agree with Dizz's reply.

Each brand has its own special way to pack it to make it taste its best. What works for SB doesn't work for Tangiers, what works for AF doesn't work for Nakla, etc etc etc... Some people may even give you secret methods that are not to be shared under any circumstance! Part of the fun, imo, is to experiment with your techniques. That means that sometimes you might fuck up and have a session that tastes like ass (ew) but that only leads you closer to having one of those "omfg Mimon!" experiences. So keep trying, keep asking, we are always here to help :)

3/4 full bowl?

No, this will not do. Pack it all the way to the top! Packing too little was always a problem for me just starting out. Edited by Epoch

More Tobacco!!!!
Downstem Submerged half an inch
Lose the Ice & Diffuser until you get it smoking right

CCN Cubes take about 8 minutes to light on the stove
CCN Flats take about 5 minutes to light on the stove
Make sure the coals are fully lit.

Also I would like to praise everyone that posted.

It's been quite sometime since someone posted a question on here about a pumpkin hookah, where the 1st 10 posts weren't "Throw out the Pumpkin"

HF Made me proud today!

I agree with everything said above.

And yes, props to those who posted on this thread and didn't tell him to just throw it away. See, we're not elitist assholes like some people think we are. :)

All I can really think to add is this: http://www.hookahfor...uide-to-hookah/

JSupra, that thread will cover the basics of hookah and should help you out with your problems as well as the excellent advice already given here.

Most of the magic happens in the bowl, as long as you have a decently airtight hookah the actual setup doesnt matter that much (to a certain degree ofc). Starbuzz has never worked good for me, shitty smoke, shitty taste.
Try some AF (there is no easier smoked brand), pack the bowl fully (not hard, just so it fills the whole bowl), begin with two cocos, add more until it gets harsh. ???. Profit.

well as to throwing a pumpkin out just use a makeshit stem and use anything but the pumpkin base i once (when my km base broke) use a pumpkin with a pen extending the base on a juice bottle aside from the limitations on the narrow stem and having to use a af healthy hose it smoked fine

Lose the diffuser Use less coals Move the coal when you smell burning Dont ever fill a pumpkin with ice.
Make shure all the reverse valves are airtight.
Pack the Starbuzz Fluffly like hell
Poke the holes all the way through.
Use a toothpick.
Dont make the Holes too big if your using a large amount of holes and vice versa

Aha I beg to differ just for the fun of it though Af packs and smokes easily but nak takes more heat so I say nak or AF. AF lasts longer Nak has less chance of getting harsh

Not meant as a flame just as an opinion Reped you to show no hard feelings :) (yes I am quite the kiss ass) Edited by S3cretz
