cab395
Hey guys. I'm new at the whole hookah thing in case you haven't read one of my thousands of posts on here yet... So I was able to get a Nakhla bowl going pretty good yesterday, except I found out on here today that I packed the bowl too loose, and that Nakhla is supposed to be packed thicker? The smoke was thick, but not how I want it. I'm trying to get hookah bar caliber smoke and I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I think if I packed it a little tighter and put a windcover on, though, I'll be ok. Well, what I'm looking for is a brand of tobacco that I can get to smoke nice, thick, SMOOTH clouds . I'd love to stay with Nakhla but I want to find a washed brand because I like that there's less nicotine. I've heard Tangiers Lucid is really good, but I've only smoked two things, one being SB Blue Mist (that for some reason irritated my throat and I couldn't get thick, AT ALL (looked like cigarette smoke, to me), and the other being Nakhla Peach. It smoked thicker and tasted better, and wasn't irritating to my throat at all. So again, if someone can point me to a brand that'll help me achieve what I described above, that'd be amazing. Thanks so much for all your help so far, everyone.
spoolinspoon
Tangiers Lucid is good. Maybe try Al Fakher. Nakhla is typically dry but can handle a lot of heat. The SB blue mist was probably a dry batch from what you are describing.
cab395
I definitely think I'm gong to buy some AF next. How moist is SB supposed to be? It was pretty moist I think, maybe it was dry tho? I hope that was my problem, except I'm kinda bummed out that I bought 100g and don't wanna smoke anymore of it. :/ I just wish I could know exactly what's going on... It's kinda disheartening. spoolinspoon
SB is suppose to be juicy in a thick syrup. Maybe you didnt put enough tobacco? Tang Lucid is extremly juicy.
cab395
How much tobacco should I put in there? I sprinkled it in where it was barely over the bowl then I patted it down lightly to make it flush. Is that not enough? Someone told me on here that the Nakhla is supposed to be packed a lot tighter than that, but that smoked nice, I just couldn't get the dang SB to smoke and I didn't enjoy the uncomfortableness of it either. vendetta_revived
You will figure it out eventually. And yes, go with either Tangiers lucid, or AF. You will have to invest in a Tangiers small phunnel, or a crown phunnel to smoke it though. It CAN be smoked in other bowls, but considering the difference in your session if you use a phunnel, than if you use a standard bowl, I'd say don't even bother trying and get one of those phunnels. Tangiers work the best with those, and when tangiers works best, it's far better than any other brand imo, and that's coming from a very new tangiers smoker. Smooth clouds and long lasting robust flavours! AF you can smoke in a regular bowl no probs, and it does give you a very thick smoke along with some good flavour. Chreees
I fully recommend Tangiers Lucid. Al Fakher is pretty good, but pales in comparison.
cab395
Ok so it looks like Tangiers Lucid it is! I'm reading your tutorial on smoking Tangiers right now. This site has such a great wealth of information. Thanks so much!
cab395
Also, at risk of making myself look really bad... I kinda got screwed over when I bought my hookah. I was on vacation and just wanted to try one out, having been in hookah bars and loved it, I figured why not? The hookah I have is actually made for a screw on bowl... I know . I look young for 19 (they say it's a blessing but right now it's a curse, LOL), so naturally there are always people trying to screw me over because they think I'm younger than I actually am. Unfortunately I didn't catch it this time. It was $25 but only after I bartered with him (he tried to sell it to me for like 60 bucks). Anyway, it's a piece of junk in my opinion lol. But alas it's all I have right now! This is why the next thing I want to buy is a nice hookah. Then I can buy the phunnel. It's embarrising, but yeah... Now you all know the truth . Chreees
No worries man, we all started out with the crappy Chinese hookah. I suggest Mya Saray (QT is infamous around here, for beginners and veterans alike) and Khalil Mamoon for hookah options for you to look at. Sites such as HookahCompany.com, Hookah-Shisha.com, UltimateHookah.com, and 5StarHookah.com are good sites to look at when you're ready to buy. cab395
Ok, thank you!!! I'm gonna check them out right now! Last question. Your tutorial for Tangiers says to pack the phunnel bowl "tight" How tight do you recommend? Any special technique at all? Your tutorials are great, thank you for them! On the "How To Smoke Tangiers" thread, in the steps, I say you want it packed as tight as it comes in the retail package. Once you get a pack of Tangiers, you'll see what I mean. joytron
Pack it tight enough that there is no air but not to tight that the juices pool to the top when you compress with your fork.

Chreees
I too thought Mizo was washed at one time but was corrected that it is not. Pretty sure, anyway... I know it can pack a good buzz as well. But yeah, El Basha is their "lightweight" line.

cab395
Well, today I packed it tighter and made a make-shift windcover and the results were great! I can't wait to buy a new hookah with a phunnel bowl and try some Tangiers Lucid. Hopefully I can get the same results. Wish me luck! I was all discouraged when it started to taste burnt but then I realized I had it smoking for an hour and 10 minutes and it was all done! Such a rewarding feeling. Thanks for all your help, everyone!
