Need Some Feedback

I don't really want to bring this topic up as it's been asked every where but I still can't seem to get it down. I just got my order of Tangiers green apple candy and orange soda and was pretty exited to pack a bowl but at the end of the day I just disapointed myself. Now I've had success with Tangiers once before but it didn't last long....but I know how strong orange soda should taste.

As soon as they came in I let them both acclimate for a little over four hours, which maybe wasn't long enough but the orange soda smelled spot on so I figured it was ready. I have a medium size phunnel and since I'm broke I thought I would try and conserve so I made a tea light mod. I used 4 coconars cut in half and placed each half around the bowl in a circle.

I played around with the heat and although I could get decent clouds the taste was nowhere near would it should have been. I also took the foil off and added more shisha thinking maybe I just didn't pack enough but the results never got better no matter what I did.

Any help? I know I'm going to have to do trial and error but I'm broke so I would like to save as much as I can going through the process. I may just toss the phunnel idea for now because it uses so much. Its just frustrating not being able to get it once you know how good it can smoke.

Maybe the Cocos are giving too much heat? Try a different coal if you can. Or perhaps start your bowl one coal at a time, and add or subtract them until you get the right heat level.

That was the weird thing though it was either not enough coals which have thin smoke or if I added more the clouds would get thiker with a very little orange taste but not the delicous orange soda taste.

I've also gathered from watching a couple videos I might have packed it down to much, everybody seems to slightly press as if just to level it out...how much of a problem would it cause being to tight?

I'm going to try another go in a egyptian bowl later today I'm don't know how hard of a transition it will be going to the phunnel once I get it down. How long can I expect the bowl to last?

If I continue to have problems I'll probably take a step by step pic process just to narrow down what I'm missing.

Packing down tight is usually a good thing for Tangiers. They say it should be packed about as hard as it comes in the original package...

For packing an Egyptian bowl with Tang, I hear you should pack the tobacco hard against the walls of the bowl, and leave the middle section loose and fluffy.

Okay I got the smoke to get a little better but the orange soda just isn't coming out strong. You can taste an orange under taste but its just not in your face like I remember. I added more heat but it just got harsh. I packed it just like Eric did on the youtube video so I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem. Any thoughts of what I'm missing?

Maybe post some pictures of your packing method so we can see what you're doing. I use halves and they work great for tang. Also, Orange Soda is a strong flavor. So you have to kind of be careful when it comes to heat. It works better with GCs or Fumari coals.

Ill take a look at that link and post pics step by step of how I do it. I'm using my phone though and I get really shitty signal where I lie but hopefully I can get something posted.

Its making me mad lol, my friend keeps saying it taste good and its not going to be a real strong flavor and I'm expecting to much, so when I get it perfect it will definatly be worth the wait.
