ghostofdavid
So, I've asked this several times in threads with a few answers. So, maybe this will be brought to the attention of those who have not seen me ask my question or to those who have just not answered yet...What do you use to light natural coals? If it is something that is lit with a torch, what kind of torch do you use? Thanks!

nuschultz
Many people swear by the Bernzomatic torches. I use a stove top, coil, not ceramic.

Scalliwag
[quote name='Teh Owntt']I use my ceramic stove top. If Ms. Scalli caught me even lighting a coal the "right" way on it she would beat my ass and pack my bags It is one of the very few things I have ever bought that I read the manual When only lighting a coulple or few coals an electric stove is not practical in my opinion. It takes too long and wastes a lot of energy. So far seeing how halon lit a coal in 28 seconds using a propane torch that is the most efficient method i have seen. For lounges or large parties I still think preheating the coals in a covered pot and then exposing them to a open flame in a stainless collander would be best. djnick
I use the portable electric stove thingies. Just sit the coals on top and let them light, no need to hold a torch and fire on it and it hold it forever to light. Just let them sit and light and enjoy! Scalliwag
I guess it depends on the torch, 28 seconds is not a long time to hold a coal to a flame.

Teh Owntt
All you have to do is get the outside, the coal will finish lighting itself.
