Another Craigslist Hookah

Recommended Posts

They're Myas but with Acrylic bases: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/for/2561226929.html

What is your opinion on acrylic bases? Can it be swapped out for glass (my preference)?

What am I looking for? I mentioned in other posts that I'd like a tall-ish model since I'm "vain" that way - I love the way those 3' hookahs look (not that I can afford one at this time, it would be more than my rent! I may be reading the "build your own" posts to go that way), but am realistic and will settle for something around 18".

I have never smoked a hookah (wtf am I doing here then? you should see the research I did before I bought my BF his kegerator LOL) but that's not stopped me before. A friend of mine worked at a hookah bar and said Mya is the way to go, so I've been looking at them - even though I've seen LOTS of generic Chinese (aka "super hooka" etc) that had appealed to my uneducated eye until I read the chinese hookah posts here. (so hard to resist the easy lure of the chinese hookah when I can buy them locally) I do like that you can change a single-hose Mya to a dual-hose hookah.

Well honestly, what you want isn't an issue. I guarantee with the knowledge base here, we can virtually hunt down anything you want. The only thing limiting you is price. Give us a price, and some perimeters you were shooting for, and we'll crank out the answer to the equation.

Agreed with Dave.

Acrylic Myas are pretty fantastic, and you can certainly replace the vase with a glass one. Just have to find the right size.

Price, well I would love to be "price is no object" unfortunately, I am seriously limited by price so I am hoping to keep it to under US$100. I just hit the trade section and I am amazed at how many Stui has for sale. I may consider one of his since they appear to be quality brands and a reasonable price. There is another smoke shop I want to hit locally and see what they have (probably more of the chinese cheap stuff).

Sounds like you are pretty set on a Mya and there are many that can be had for under $100. Stuie aside, I would be very wary of buying a used Mya (when oxidation occurs heavily in the heart it can be difficult to remove).

Right at your budget, although with the discount it should bring it down. Its pretty cute and unique as well!

I'm mainly set on Mya since so many people rave about them. Not adverse to KM or others. Thank you for the link. Though I'm not a pink fan, I see they have some others that are in the price range (I'd been looking a lot at hookah-shisha.com).

I hadn't thought about oxidization, I'd'a thought that wouldn't be such an issue with stainless stems (I'm presuming that is what you mean, joytron).

Definitely go for a Mya. Great hookahs. I've owned three different QTs, a Petite, and a Mini Acrylic. All were awesome.

And yes, the vase on the Acrylics can be changed out. Just ask Stuie. He did it to his.

That is why I stated Stuie aside (As in other than Stuie). In fact because of what I perceive to be OCD on your part, you are one of the few people I would risk buying from used. I have bought several used pipes when I first started and was absolutely repulsed by the condition they were kept in.

I am considering that Mya I asked you about, Stuie, but I presume I'd need to get bowl and hose elsewhere. The craigslist one was already sold, so that one is out. I found a number of places in the Village that sell hookah so if we get out early on Friday I may check them out on my way home (see if they have other than "no name").

Part of the fun of this is searching and asking and research. The DIY section has been some interesting reads, I'm really looking forward to making my own shisha once I have a handle on how to use "premade" shisha.
