Chreees
Okay, so my boss here at work got a new computer loaded with Windows 7 Professional for the guests to use here in the lobby. Since we've had so many issues with guests fudging up the computer in the past by downloading junk, we'd like to make this one where basically all they can do is surf the net and view Word/Excel documents. Essentially, we don't want them to be able to download any programs. Now, in my search I've found that you need to go into the Group Policy Editor and change some stuff. I went in there, and to be honest, I felt like a blubbering fool. Could someone help a brotha out? You'd save me this headache and many more from people downloading stuff and messing up our computer! Thanks in advance HookahForum, Chris
Hellz
I dont think you can rightly block downloading of programs, Just the installation of programs. If I'm not mistaken anyway. Only other way to pretty much stop them from downloading anything is to plain shut off the net. OR - jsut had another thought, depending on how your network is set up, and you see where the guests are downloading from, you can just log into your router, block these sites as they come along. vendetta_revived
Is this computer on a network? If so, you could block the downloads from the server. If not, then I have no idea. :-s
IainUM
i believe if you set it up with an admin profile and a guest profile (at the log-in when you start up the computer) you should be able to change the settings so that only the admin has the right to download things and make all the computers set to the guest section
S3cretz
Yep Group policy is teh way to go but Group policy involves having a server. And some knowledge of local domain. The other alternative also requires a server but its alot easier just go to your servers ip in your browser and add /10000(depending on the type of server but this should work) say if its the default ip it should look like so 192.168.1.1/100000 there you should be able to set proxy accounts and their download limits. Set up the client with the username and pass you limited. theres another way it involves some scripting and no server and im lazy nao. Deep Freeze also has an option to block downloads

This is exactly how it's set up and I just need to block that guest account from downloading programs. Either that or block the installing of them. No network or server, just a guest use computer in the lobby. All they need to be able to do is surf the Internet and view Word/Excel documents. I'll see if my boss wants to buy that or not. If you or anyone else knows a free way to go about doing it, such as how to change it in the Group Policy thing, please let me know. Thanks.
