grock
Ive had this problem in the past with this hookah in particular. Every time I clean it up, it seems to come back. I have a Small MYA Gelato hookah that I got about half a year ago, and I really love it. Its a great little piece. Only problem is, it forms these strange looking crystals/mold? in it and I have no idea how to completely get rid of it. Like I said, Ive cleaned it a few times, but it seems to come back. I normally just put baking soda in with water, cover the ends of the stem and shake. Then rinse with lemon juice and warm water. It still persistently comes back though after a few days of session. It mainly forms in the hose adapter, and recently, the tip of the hose that goes into the adapter has been seen forming some of the substance. I have also seen it forming inside the stem as well. I am just going to continue to clean it with my normal routine, but it would be nice to kill whatever is in there for good. The set-up I am running is with: -Crown Micro phunnel -Nammor v2 hose -Tangiers regular line -3 CN halves Here are some pictures of the mold/crystals/whatever.... I basically got this for free from hookah-shisha and its had me thinking they were giving em away for a reason Regardless, I appreciate any help or input anyone has. Thanks! Stuie
I see the problem plain as day. It's your Pipe. I have tried 3 Mya Econos and all of them had stuff like this, awful taste. I hate saying that since I am a mya fan... ... get rid of the Econo.. it's your problem. Aluminum Stems are never a good idea.
grock
Haha thanks stuie. I guess there's a reason they were giving em away with large orders. I'll just have to stick with my large MYA until I nut up and by a KM...
king_lunchb0x
the other small myas seem to do fine, just their econo line is crap

atalanta
Glad you guys talked me out of the Econo Thunder (this month's freebie on H-S) and talked me into one of Stuie's. Kind'a looked like the gunk we get when our kegerator is overdue for cleaning. Far as I know, all the fittings are brass and stainless though. Mahir
Yepppp that's what it is. Also, this happens when you replace your purge ball with an aluminum BB. It get's all fizzy and crystallized.....even makes your shisha taste sour...no bueno.

Chreees
I concur with Mr. Stuart. My friend's Econo QT did the exact same thing. He gave me his KM and all he wanted was his little Econo QT... Such a shame. He ended up picking up a gas station hookah. This is what he told me over the phone, "So dude I picked up this hookah from the gas station out by the interstate, and I get home and get it all set up to smoke. So I'm sitting there smoking and I see this button on the stem part. I press it and it lights up in this weird pinkish hue. And I'm just like..... gay. It smoked pretty good, though."
I kinda gave up on this friend... haha. He prefers the Egyptian bowl over the Tangiers phunnel bowl and Al Waha over Tangiers! He gave me his Khalil Mamoon Trimetal and all he wanted was his Econo QT. I showed him the error of his ways a great many times, but he is stubborn. Needless to say, whenever we smoke, we have our own individual pipes.

mushrat
if its happening on your espresso pot and your hookah id say Hard Water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_water As far as I know, and I will check, the screw in ports on all Myas are the same. It's the stems that are different. It could be minerals in the water precipitating out and mixing with the shisha crap that filters into the water. Check your shower heads for white crystal type crap clogging some of the holes in the shower head for an indication.
Hassouni
I thought hard water too, but the stuff literally appears in big piles overnight..
Keiyentai
are you making sure all the lemon and baking soda are cleaned off. Looks like build up or the metal reacting it sitting to long

The Hose ports and Purge valves where significantly lighter. I believe they were aluminum too.
mushrat
There goes the neighborhood. *sigh* Either way I think thats environmental as opposed to something to do directly with the pipe.
Epoch
My Econo QT gets it a lot. My friend has an Econo Thunder, and it's much worse. The plating is chipping off and everything.
grock
So as a conclusion, its the pipe, not the cleaning or water itself. Econo's just get funky inside? And my hose ports are definitely lighter than my other MYA's. The material it is made of seems to explain the effect.

I use distilled water when I clean my hookah and it still gave me probs when I was using the econo QT
mushrat
Ok, so someone explain to me the science behind an aluminum hookah part growing that stuff then. I can see the science behind precipitating crap out of the water, i can see the science of soemthing having to do with the shisha juice crystallizing, etc. But please explain to me how the hookah itself is spontaneously growing that stuff. Otherwise your observations do not mean your conclusions are valid.
Perhaps aluminum isn't the culprit, but the building materials of Econo Myas certainly are. Of all my hookahs, only the Econo Myas have this issue. I know two others personally with Econo Myas, and once again those are the ONLY pipes with white residue and plating chipping off.
