Mark
Well I'm remodeling my room. Having it like a lounge/chill room. Just wondering what kind of lighting/bulbs would you guys use? I've been to a hookah lounge in Stockton(forgot what it was called) the whole second floor was lit with blacklights. The smoke was more vivid and thick looking. Would you guys go with blacklights? DarthHookah
i usually wear black (blacker than the blackest black times infinity) and it shows lints and whatnot in blacklight- so no, i avoid blacklights like the clap.
Claytron
I don't like blacklights for general purpose lighting. They can look pretty tacky IMO. For general purpose lighting, I actually like the GE reveal bulbs. They give a nice clean light. There are also some interesting LED light 'bulbs' that can change color - I have a couple of those. Halogens are great for directed light. LED lights are my favorite though - you can do alot with them in quantity. Seen some pretty impressive LED projects. Scalliwag
It would depend on furniture style and the other things about the room to figure out lighting. I am in the middle of adding a patio area on the more private side of my house. Putting french doors in, already moved the hot tub. Putting really nice tiki torches, planting palm trees and decorating a tropical theme. I am using neon mexican beer themed signs and strings of the lights with the little chili peppers. All of that stuff either works together or it doesn't. If you have a camera take a few pics and we can look at them and get a better idea of how to "pimp your room"!!! Mark
well i guess lighting is the last thing i should be thinking of. i'll just stick with my reg. soft white bulbs i think. gotta get my room done first. mayn so much to dooo.
Scalliwag
yep, designing around lighting would be harder since they are more of an accent to a room. Finding deals on furnishings starting with the most expensive items is best. You can find good deals on stuff that would cost out the ass in a store. People moving or whatever have to get rid of things quick sometimes and take big losses to move stuff fast. Quality stuff like Ethan Allen, etc. can still cost a lot used but you never know. The bottom line is if you find a whole matching set of furniture that works for you, you want to design around it. Keep your eyes peeled for that and you will have a lot less money in a really nice room in the end. I am all about setting up stuff like this bro. My study is decorated in all antique furnishings. I also use it for my guitars and recording equipment but I don't want the room to look cluttered with crap everywhere unless I have friends over picking ya know. I stash my mic stands in an armoire and my studio is hidden in a cabinet that all I do is open a few doors, plug in and power on. The bottom line is take your time and make it a place you really love to be. Get creative with it and like you did here, ask for advice weigh it out. ghostofdavid
I also use GE Reveal lights. Go with softer wattage for a more ambient feel. If we are taking paint, I really love deep red/maroon colors with purple accents. Ahh, to be a pimp!

I go to UOP, you live in Stockton or were you just passing through?
Scalliwag
What do you use that boss for, Scalli?
it's actually 8 tracks, it just looks like 4 because that is how many sliders. The button below each slider toggles to another track. It also has 64 virtual tracks. Pretty badass. I just tinker with it though
Claytron
Sorry to derail, but what did you mount the monitor with? There are no screws on the other side, so I'm curious.
nuschultz
As far as how I would do the lighting, I would set up a nice recessed lighting and track lighting system. If you have room for a bar in your room, i would put recessed lighting over the bar, with track lighting pointed at all the walls. for more lighting in the room itself, i would go with a ceiling fan, with the light on the dimmer switch.jsut my idea. Scalliwag
heavy duty double sided tape. That cabinet is a Bevan Funnel solid mahogany piece. I could not bring myself to drilling it. The back panel was not original so I did not hesitate to drill holes for the cables there. If you want to see something that will really trip you out, check out how much Bevan Funnel furniture sells for.. shonimus
For recording stuff, I just use my laptop and an audio interface. Nothing beats an infinite amount of tracks, though no one really needs more than 64.
pauldavis
you use mac or pc?...i love my powerbbok with logic...totally awesome
Claytron
Some people need more than 64 - but not many. I use my powerbook for music. OSX is a better platform for audio. This is really off topic though. We should move such things elsewhere if they are to continue.

I love the Boss. Even though I work in the I.T. field I have messed with analog mixers and soundboards for so many years that I stuggle with PC based systems. I need the knobs I put a 1gig CF card in the boss and it will store over 4 hours of recording now. I bounce all the tracks on the Boss and then put the mem card in the reader (next to the LCD panel) Then I can convert the files to wav or mp3 or whatever. Very little is dome on that PC.I have an identical LCD that I am thinking about moving the one over and putting it next to it. I have a dual graphics card so may as well ya know?
