rhineholt
As I'm cleaning my QT today, I noticed that no matter how many times I use my pipe cleaner and run water through it, there's still a smell of old tobacco. I know that I won't get the smell completely out, but it was SUCH a strong smell that it affected my sessions. So I decided to take a toothbrush to it. I stuck a toothbrush up the pipe (after i took off the downstem) and was surprised at what happened. Turns out, instead of a pipe going all the way up to where the bowl rests, it's completely open. Now, you guys may already know this but I didn't so i figured I'd help somebody that was having trouble with this. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about. Now I figured, if I were to have cleaned that part out completely when I first started smoking, I wouldn't be having problems with this lingering smell. I spent about half an hour cleaning it out as best I could, each time the toothbrush was brown. I sure hope this helps somebody else out!
Stuie
I just let mine soak in super hot water and Dawn for an hour before scrubbing it out. Never had a problem. Let that bad boy soak.
Pavo21
i have 3 of those actually, and yah they do start to stink but for the vase best thing is a baby bottle brush they are strong and don't hold stink as well for the stem we have some trumpet cleaners and horn cleaners my gf used to be a band geek and those work amazing especially for longer hooks because they are about a meter long so they reach well and have rough bristles to clean the gunk i do its about 3-4 times a week so that i know its clean, also what stuie said soaking it always works but with myas you dont want to let it soak for over an hour cause its metal and you know what happends when you forget its soaking it starts to go bad not the first couple times but you'll replace it before that happens im sure --added side note-- depends on the bowl you use, mya bowls will drip down and phunnel action shouldn't unless you put some in the hole. mushrat
I use a brush from a brewing store bent at a 90 degree angle to get into the nooks and crannies in the bottom of the base. A regular hookah stem brush for the stem. Never had any real issue in my place and I used soem of those hookahs for 3 years, multiple times a day kinda use. When you say the stem is open you are talking about the shared chamber (what was it we used to call this type of hookah long ago?) inlike there being a seperate hole/pipe enclosed in the stem leadign the the purge valve and hose port as in a traditional design? SweetNut
With my QT, and any of my other hookahs for that matter, I make a solution of lemon juice and baking soda in the base... slosh it around in the base then wash all the insides with the solution too.. If soaking it in hot water and soap doesnt seem to work, give that a try.
I think i understand what youre saying, but I don't think I'm talking about that part... haha. In the picture I posted, from the top down it goes bowl, tray, then that bump thing. That thing is hollow. There's not a pipe going through it down to the detachable downstem. At least in mine there wasn't a pipe in it... I hope everybody gets what part I'm talking about. I'm not talking about the base, although thank you for the advice, I'll be sure take all the advice I got and use it! Pavo21
the mya gelatos are like that to their isn't a down stem all the way through its just empty space to store the smoke and what not. so yah just gotta use what you got to clean that out what ever works for you is what will. if you gotta pressure washer shit why not lololol. but i would just use a brush what ever you can use to get up in there
