Yakima ali Samba
I need some help. I have a Turkish hookah that takes a male bowl and I want to be able to use my Vortex and Crown bowls. I use a brass hose barb that fits the stem pretty good, but is not perfect. I was wondering if Teflon tape would be a good material to wind around the barb for a better fit. I'm worried about possibly inhaling toxic fumes from the tape and ruining a good session - not to mention frying my lungs! Thanks for your thoughts! vendetta_revived
Do you fit the barb everytime you use it or it is just a permanent fix that you take apart very seldom? if you put it together everytime, then I am thinking that a wet paper towel around it would be a better/nontoxic alternative. Chreees
Damp strip of paper towel like Vendetta mentioned. You can use it as a gasket for anything really- hose, bowl, vase-to-stem. Not sure about Teflon tape.
poncho
i can make you a glass converter so you can use your female bowls on your male pipe. it would fit perfect with a grommet on either side. It essentially is 2 opposite male tapers, so one you can stick inside your pipe, the other is sticking up to put the females on.
atalanta
Teflon tape should be fine. Unless you plan to heat it past 396°F (202.2°C), at which point teflon begins to outgass the "nasty stuff". It's used by people who stretch their piercings to gradually increase the diameter of the plug they're using because it won't react with the micro tears caused by stretching. atalanta
Ugh since I can't find the edit button, here is the spec sheet: http://www.uline.com/PDF/MS-5331.PDF
S3cretz
Just take a long shaft of anything with a hole in the middle and jam it in the female port. Then put a normal grommet on the shaft. And then apply the bowl.
Yakima ali Samba
Thanks for that MDS sheet, atalanta! I don't know, but I think the heat is getting a little too close to be comfortable with the teflon tape. I have read that the coals are somewhere around 600 F and I have no idea on how much it has cooled off at the hose barb. It very well may have cooled below 400 F at that point. I guess I could grab a hold of it and try to judge how hot it is by how loud/long I scream. I think I will be going with a paper towel for now. Poncho - I'm taking you up on that offer! And thanks to everyone for responding with some real good advice. This is my first real post on HF and I got great response and an offer to make a grommet - you guys rock! mushrat
Damn, Hookah company occasionally has ceramic adapters. Don't see them listed now.
