Making The Switch To Nats..looking For The Cheapist Gas Coil Burner

Recommended Posts

So, I decided (after ordering 5 rolls of QL's of course) that on my next order, I am going to get a box of Coco's. I do however, need to get a burner that is gas because I have to be able to light the coals outside. I know H-S carries one, but I was hoping to get one cheaper then 35. I can find cheaper ones, but they are electric, so that will do me no good right now. Suggestions??

Google Gas Camp Stove. You'll get hits all over the price range (US$11 to US$150 and more). You can also search for instructions for making a chimney (I use a full size one for my grill) - it's a two-level contraption, you put paper in the bottom, coals in the top. (adjust these instructions for scale: http://www.instructables.com/id/Charcoal-Starter/ )

You can also hit a sporting goods store, one that has camping and/or hunting supplies. These things aren't going to be cheap to ship and you will need to find a local source for the gas (usually propane) because of shipping regulations.

I lit my CCNs on my kitchen gas stove (the back door is right next to the stove so it was open) and it took about 15 minutes. But it was worth the wait.

if your looking for a portable gas burner, go to a camping store and look at propane camping stoves. That'll be exactly what your looking for.

Do more people use Flat pieces or Cubes?

I think mine are the flats, but that's just a guess since I'm such a noob. I'd have to get a box of the "new" cubes to compare.

I want to try making a chimney at some point since the full size one does such a good job with my coals for the grill.

Check a camping store, or most of the online retailers sell electric burners on their hookah websites. You could also check ebay, but make sure its not some made in Taiwan P.O.S thats gonna burn your house down in the process.

Haha yea...after looking around, dealing with prices, etc, I am just getting the electric one Coyote posted with a long extension cord. Its going to be a little comical, but it should work!

Uh the box? lmao

Sorry that's just a tad ridiculous :)

Oh and coals don't like water, just as a heads up as well :)

:P I never would have guessed thanks!!

But really, I just did not know if them being out would do anything..shorten their shelf life or something. I figured it would be easier to leave a bunch in a coal holder and just put the boxes away somewhere until I needed to refill.

wtf guys... are thought we were all in agreement here. its all about WALGREENS!
That right thurrr is the correct answer. Add an extension cord if you're smoking outside or find some way to work around that unless you're smoking in the woods. Gas burners take longer and burn off a little more of the coal than the electric burners do. I have access to both, I use electric.
