atalanta
Yes, I drank the kool-aid many years ago. Still have my first mac (haven't fired it up in years). Chreees
Steve Jobs has a legacy that will go on forever. He was a true innovator in technology. It is sad that he had to go early, but there are some things we just cannot control in life. Just imagine what he could have done at Apple and where we'd be now if he hadn't been lost the power struggle and gone on that 10 year hiatus. Hellz
Yes, the inventor of subpar computing is finally dead. Or should I say, the inventor of computers for stupid people. People who wish to not know shit about computers, but yet feel like they own the world and are actually knowledgeable. Anyway. Enough about how shitty macs are. the iPod was pretty pimp though. Only good thing to really come out of that company

The guy was genius that's for sure but he didn't seem to really give a damn about anyone but himself early on, he was a very cut throat sort of guy. If he hadn't been so power hungry and bid his time until it was his turn I think apple would have a much larger market share in the PC/Server world. I think the illness really brought him out of his attitude though there is still a lot of negative reports on how he dealt with fans/peers. I've bagged on Apple a ton but it's still sad that Jobs is gone, also has anyone seen the new Apple campus he helped design? That thing is amazing. [/quote] Yeah, I've heard tons of stories about how much of an ass he was to his colleagues and employees. A story a guy who worked at Apple told me while I waited 7 hours in line on launch day of the iPhone 4: Jobs got on the elevator along with an employee (the guy's friend). Jobs asked him what he did at Apple. The guy got nervous and was having trouble responding. Jobs burst out in anger and told him since he was not confident in his work he was fired. Jobs then got off the elevator and left the dude standing there stunned. Who knows if this is true, but the stories like these are abundant. Unfortunately some of the most creative/innovative people in history had some of the biggest flaws.
vendetta_revived
I don't think this thread should be used to hate on the guy or apple..I mean he just died. Hate him or like him, but you can't ignore that the plethora of touchscreen phones you see around you today were revolutionized by the iphone and then the tablet market was again revolutionized by ipad. Whatever your personal opionion of the guy may be, he did do a lot for the technological advancements we see around us. RIP Steve jobs.
Fusion
I'm not the biggest fan of Apple, as in I don't really own anything they've put out, but I love all the technical innovation they've pioneered over the years. If you even own a smart phone, tablet, or PC, chances are that technology was influenced in some way by what Apple has done. The only Apple product I've ever owned was an iPod in high school, but I thought and still think Steve Jobs was a total genius. And yeah he definitely had his faults, which is probably why Apple threw him out in the first place, but when he came back and kept pushing out innovation after innovation... He played such a key role in everything over there and was arguably the face of Apple, especially creatively. What are they going to do without him now? So sad he had to go so soon
Stuie
Jobs was an innovator for sure, despite my thoughts that he is too proud of his products. This is a sad day in the computer world.

ChicagoRSX
While I do think he was very innovative for a long time. I believe more so then that, the man just knew how to repackage the same old thing(ipod/phone) making minimal changes to it and then going on to make a HUGE killing off of it and repeating this every year/season. A13lackFish
This thread should not be opinionated, great respect for the man for his accomplishments and his hard work. On that same note, for all those out there who are "mourning his loss", you did not know him, if he met you he likely wouldn't look at you twice (this includes me), and to be honest I don't need to see another status update about how hes gone or a profile picture change to his face... its just plain rude to use his death as a way of getting likes on your FB page... Anyways long live the IPOD, and much respect to S.J

I've been able to make the apple iphone platform work well enough for my tastes through jailbreaking/jailbroken apps (YAY free apps..err I mean yay) but this is mostly because I've got it too good on ATT with my contract (more minutes than you can shake a stick at, unlimited text, and unlimited data) plus I got an iphone4 for free this summer

atalanta
They replayed an inteview with him on Fresh Air from 1996 (before he went back to Apple). Two comments really summed it up: "If it wasn't us, it would have been someone else. We just happened to be at the right place at the right time." (referring to himself and Wozniack on starting Apple). "Our goal was to bring a liberal arts perspective and a liberal arts audience to what had traditionally been a very geeky technology and a very geeky audience." Fusion
Hey I listened to that episode of Fresh Air too! Love listening to NPR while smoking Anyways, it was such a great interview, he was really humble about his success and sounded so driven and vibrant. It's great he was able to bring all that creativity and innovation back to Apple the next year (after the interview took place). I also loved the part where he was talking about the beginnings of Apple and the struggle about fighting for not only having a mouse with one button, but having a mouse at all!
