What Happens If You Blend Shisha?

Recommended Posts

I had a hard time thinking of a title for this, as I hope people aren't expecting mixing flavors. What I am wondering, is what the ideal consistency for shisha.

I've noticed that Tangiers, Starbuzz, and other similar companies have a very fine mixture, with little to no stems, and very wet. Nakhla on the other hand, has stems, and large pieces of leaves or whatever those flat thin bits are.

What I am debating on doing, is using my Magic Bullet that is laying around my kitchen, and blending the shisha. The goal will most likely be turning "chunkier" Nakhla, into a finer substance.

Also, would it be beneficial to add honey or molasses to finer mixture to get greater clouds?

I haven't done any of these tests, but I plan on attempting it when my order of more Nakhla comes in. Should be pretty interesting.

If anyone has tried this before, or knows it wont work, please shoot me down ahead of time. :P

My last answer was brief as I was on my phone. If you blend the shisha together in a magic bullet, your only going to puree it at best case scenario. I think if you break it down further, you will be essentially making it wetter, and making it more resistant to smoking. I've never heard(but my knowledge of nak is limited) of people having an issue smoking Nak due to consistency, so that is a new one by me. As far as adding honey or glycerin, I can't help you there as I've never played around with it, but if your looking for bigger clouds, I think you need to work on your heat management.

But if you really want to try and chop up shisha, I would advise you to use something like a manual chopper so you don't go overboard and turn it into a shisha smoothie.

i would try a small test sample, cause it doesn't sound like something that would work well. You dont want it to be turned to just a paste. You could try what Ian said and use some scissors to cut up thick pieces. I always thought was don't want to have to fine or small of tobacco that it cant absorb the fluids, or in this case retain them... just a theory

Magic bullet will puree it, probably becoming next to impossible to smoke. Ideal thickness =Tangiers most likely.

Romman tobacco is chopped super-fine, and swimming in molasses. It's very near paste. Still smokes great!

I want to throw this out there, I have no qualms with nakhla, Im just curious. Im getting fine clouds, but it would be interesting to see how changing consistency/wetness of the shisha affects the smoke.

I got a crown micro funnel, so right now I'm just waiting for my order from NazarHookah to come in. Its been delayed quite a bit, but its gonna be worth it. Hopefully by the end of next week. (fingers crossed)

Thanks for all your input. If anyone else has anything to chime in with, still open to hear ideas.

I would think that if it turned out to "gunky" you could add some plain pipe tobacco (American Spirit seems popular for homemade shisha) and whirr that in to absorb some of the extra gunkiness.

yeah unwashed American natural spirit gives a good buzz a little bit stronger than tangiers if you dont smoke tangiers any one who dose smoke tangiers will notices a slighter buzz.

The cut is a factor in how much air is in between the individual pieces of tobacco. Cutting it much finer should change how it smokes and and could have a similar effect of packing it super tight.

I have added honey to Nak before and it was a waste of time. I would suggest blending it first without adding anything to it and see how that goes. If it doesn't ruin it, try adding some stuff to it.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

Your right. My hypothesis is that the top layer would burn and the bottom layer would stay pureed. The shisha smoothie would not allow heat to flow because it is too dense. I doubt that the tobacco would vaporize properly. But try it, I'm interested to see what happens whether it works or is a miserable failure. Its only one bowl, right?
