A13lackFish
Just wanted to throw people a heads up, as I work with ebay for my job I've noticed over the past few months that hookah "accessories" have become more prevalent just a few things worth noting. 1) Coals, are a frack ton cheaper on ebay, i recently purchased an order of 4 kilos of Chronic coals for 9 dollars each or 36 bucks and with $10 USPS priority mail shipping. Ive also seen coconaras for around 10 dollars per 108 pack in bulk... just search around a bit under the term hookah... 2) Hoses, pretty each to find on there, have yet to see many washables but have seen a couple of the official Nammor brand hoses sold on there for around 12 with low shipping. 3) Dont buy phunnels, alot of those on there now, but none are official tangiers phunnels. Ive purchased 2 off of ebay and neither worked right and were cheap build quality. And the majority of sellers ive tried to confirm with respond with "Tangiers?" 4) Shisha packs, if you want a brand like Hydro, they are dirt cheap on ebay if purchased in bulk. Have yet to see more than Nakhla mint on there in terms of noticable brands, but it is getting there if you'd rather use MF. 5) Hookahs, ive seen KM's used go for $40-60 on average, near mint, 36" + in size. There are also new hookahs of all brands on there, around the same price but with minimal shipping... Just thought id let people know
Chreees
It should also be noted you shouldn't buy any tobacco off of eBay, since they do not allow transactions of tobacco (yet people still manage to list it)... It could seriously mess up yours and the seller's MF accounts.

atalanta
Lots of Soex and 5star has the shisha stones (debatable whether their site or eBay is cheaper). hookah4sale is one of the ones I'm seeing a lot lately with inexpensive and "free shipping" if you can get the item for a decent bid. Buy it Now is a bit higher. I'm bidding on egyptian bowls and windcovers right now. I was going for Soex, but with the reviews, I let myself be overbid. I've contemplated some of the fully brass hookahs, BF hinted that he wants one.

RIGHT when I started hookah, I'm talking the very first tobacco I purchased, it was like 20 of the Hookah-Hookah shots (god what a mistake that was). Anyway, after I purchased it and told the seller what flavors I wanted, the listing (that I bought) totally disappeared. About a week later the seller FINALLY got back to me and said that the listing had been deleted by eBay because it was tobacco but that they got my money out of MF right before they hit their MF account and put a lock on it or some shit. Either way, I was like WTF. Then I read up on it and sure enough, no tobacco listings on eBay... Only time I really see it is when a seller throws in some random tobacco along with a hookah they are selling. Or they say "free gift." A lot of people on eBay claim theirs are solid brass, when actually they are not. Always good to double check with your fellow HFers! I know I have a time or two.
I can confirm that the same thing happened to me on one occasion, though it did all get sorted out and I've had several good buys of tobacco via eBay, more good than bad. There does seem to be an intentional blind eye being turned to the sale of "the collectable packaging, not the contents" and even to statements like "for the purpose of eBay rules, this product does not contain tobacco" (on a listing for Nakhla). So, use caution and proceed at your own risk, but I'm with A13lackFish in saying that these problems are a rarity. The biggest problem is that you don't get much choice at a given time; you can buy what someone has to sell and not what you happen to fancy. Please note that I do not encourage that kind of BS, but whether to buy from such a listing is a value judgement relative to your other options; in the US you can buy all the mainstream tobaccos cheaply, easily and reliably from a choice of vendors, so you don't have anything much to gain from using eBay. This becomes a different matter when your local vendor runs out of Nak Mint and Nak DA, your national vendors aren't permitted to sell it and your other option is to risk importing it yourself; it's under those circumstances that buying what someone brought back from holiday seems to be (and legally is) the lesser of two evils. magick777
I'm starting to find myself a bit baffled by this whole thread, because, without disagreeing with anything that anyone's said, there's a lot of stating the bleedin' obvious going on. The initial review of the current state of the eBay market might be a useful heads-up to some, I guess. The way I see it, though, things fall into two clear categories: why would you? and why wouldn't you? Why wouldn't you use eBay for a complete hookah second-hand, a rare Tangiers bowl not in production, or a product sold direct by the craftsman? This is the application that justifies paying the costs of eBay. Why would you use eBay for something like coals unless massively below market price? The fees run to 15-20% between eBay and MF, on top of that you're talking about a product that is dense relative to its financial value so shipping costs are a major factor. Dedicated retailers will usually have better shipping arrangements than ad-hoc private sellers. Admittedly, I'm lucky in having a cheap local source for finger coals and lemon wood lump coals, but I can't see me ever paying a shipping fee to buy just coal, even when buying online. I've just put in an order for a travel bag, hose and tray that I can't get locally, and with that I threw in 3kg of Cococha and 3 boxes of Golden Flash at no extra shipping cost; I'll have thrown more cheap coals on another order before those run out. So for me, it's pretty obvious when to use eBay and when not to; likewise that caveat emptor always applies. Surprises me a bit that feelings run high over coal, but still..... No need to slow my roll, I had nothing but honest intentions of adding supplemental information to this thread being an ebay hookah buyer myself and noticing trends and what have you from my own time spent on there so dont get all offended
Exactly, I was given a cheap chinese phunnel from a friend while I was waiting for my Tangiers phunnel to come in. It was small, had a hollow construction, and the dimensions were less than desirable for smoking Tangiers. If the phunnel is hallow it will have a hell of a time trying to retain heat enough to vaporize the tobacco. Vaporization is also effected by the dimensions of the bowl... as the tobacco heats up, different parts of the mixture move in different ways. Often when the dimensions are off and the bowl will not retain heat, you will vaporize the water and the nicotine while the heavier flavor just sinks to the bottom almost untouched. It will also be very hard to get thunderclouds with a chinese phunnel. Not to say that your smoke is going to completely suck if you don't have a Tangiers phunnel (with a little practice and patience you can find a method that works with just about any bowl)... just saying that the highest potential of your session will be maximized by using the bowl specifically designed for the purpose. These are not just ornamental pieces, they are designed with these materials and these dimensions for a reason. It would be a shame for someone to buy a knock off on the ebay and have a shitty experience and blame the bowl thinking that it is an official product. That being said, If you are going to smoke Tangiers and you are in the market for a new bowl, I suggest getting a Tangiers bowl from a trusted source. Made by Tangiers for Tangiers. A13lackFish
Just posting to say that I got in the Kilos of the Chronic Coals today from my ebay buyer. They cost me roughly $15 less overall with shipping. They came from a seller in CA who goes under the name Magic Smokes i guess. The box was the exact same as the most recent purchase of CH coals from John, and when measured they were the same dimensions, some cut in weird shapes etc, not perfect squares just like the original box from John. Overall from my 2 sessions today I can also say that they work the same as the ones from John, and smoke fantastically. I can post pics as well if need be to confirm, but id say I made out like a bandit from this guy and will plan to buy again Happy smoking, and glad to have that resolved! littlec
I still don't see how $36 is $15 less than 40. Glad you got the new formula though, those are legit.
