Moki
Damn. Okay, so I just wanted to get myself a nice bye-bye with my old hookah, since new one is on the way. I got natural coals ready (I had them like 3 times in my life, from 50+ sessions; I usually go with quickies), threw a bit of molasses on my chocolate flavored tobacco and well. After half a hour or so, I started feeling pretty fucking bad, so I went for some fresh air and water. This went for about ten minutes or so then I just threw up like crazy. It's like 15 minutes or so since and I feel crazy bad, I'm shaking like hell. So I realized, woh, best idea would be to go to my PC and start typing (right?)! Ever happened to you guys? Damn, that wasn't a good. Thing is, I actually really enjoyed that freaking session, until I vomited half of my brain into the toilet. So... What the hell. Epoch
You need to hydrate! Make sure you have plenty to drink while you smoke. It sounds like CO2 sickness. Make sure your coals are fully lit, slow down your puffing, and drink water. Edited October 18, 2011 by Epoch
Floataround
I never smoke on an empty stomach and without some kind of real drink in front of me , water, tea, juice, etc. Doing so makes terrible results.

Moki
Feeling a bit better after 20 minutes of being in shower. Huh. I guess I kinda screwed that up. I was trying to get better at smoke rings (which means I was holding shitload of smoke for quite a long time in my lungs) and when I am alone, I generally inhale pretty often. I started drinking as soon as I started feeling bad, but well, too late. And yeah, I actually ate like 4 hours ago, which probably didn't help either. Well, my bad. Any other "tips" for non-vomiting sessions? And of course, thanks for answers. EDIT: By the way, why should my coals be "fully lit"? I am going to make a thread about coals & whatnot later when I feel like it, and this was one of my questions. As I said, I'm pretty big newbie to naturals and they were actually extinguishing on the side they were placed on, is that normal? I had to rotate them like every 3-5 minutes, and in the end, they were almost extinguished from 3 sides or so. Could that be a cause? Floataround
If you are using Naturals, make sure they are fully red/orange ALL the way through on all sides before you place them on your bowl. If you are using quick lights, make sure they have fully ashed over before placing them. Also, another cause could be the shisha you were smoking. If lets say..you have always smoked starbuzz, and then you switch to a bowl of Nakhla , especially under the conditions you were under, chances are your body is not going to like the huge nicotine jump. The bodies natural response is to vomit.

Moki
I see. Well, when I took them out of the fire, they were completely red, but they started going black again as soon as I put them on a bowl on one side for too long. God damn it, I feel sick and pissed off at one time.

S3cretz
Dioxide and monoxide can both do damage. But monoxide tends to keep you sick longer if you survive. But like the others said Hydrate and drink lots of milk. Do a few breathing exercises. And remember never smoke your pipe on an empty stomach. Never put badly lit coals on a bowl. Wait till Naturals are either glowing red hot. Or qls are completely ashed over. Take the coal off the bowl for a few minutes if it gets harsh purge the hookah. and take a breather. The end pressed down is started of oxygen, so it will turn black because nothing is stoking it.

vendetta_revived
Do what everyone has advised and also, don't smoke in an ill ventilated room...I personally just drink water and not milk as it cleans my palette and makes me enjoy my session more. Hassouni
For me ventilation is the biggest thing, not food or water. Smoking outdoors is the best, but indoors the place needs to have a window open or the fan going. That being said I'm very sensitive to impure air, so your experience may vary
Pavo21
i've had this experience but i was drinking A LOT at the bar before so wasn't really the root cause. i smoke a lot on an empty stomach doens't bother me as much but i try to have something to drink all the time cause my mouth dry's up sometimes hydration definitely is key though. That bonds with frigin everything
Coyote
Yeah sounds like you were sucking on the hose too long without a clean breath. On another note, Most of the time when I smoke I don't have anything to drink and I'm smoking on an empty stomach. I don't get sick. However, if I eat something, then smoke, I feel sick. WTF is that about? Don't know, don't care.

But it is different strokes for different folks when it comes to being hydrated, and nourished during or after a session.
