how to identify a MYA from the mideast?

Recommended Posts

Do the MYA's there have "MYA" written on them and/or the cases? My buddy is in Jordan getting ready to pick me up some hookahs and he is thinking that he is either not seeing any MYA's or they are not marked. Anyone here familiar with them and how to guide him through this?

I was always told that Myas are always marked on several locations on their hookahs. Also, I received your coals. The address was listed as being an incorrect address but it finally made its way here. TO TORCH THEM FO A REVIEW FOR YOU SOON!!!

I always thought all Myas were Chinese made, so I don't know that you would even see one out there. I believe some of their crystal bases are Czech though.

I'm just not sure that they mark them in english. It seems like with everything going on over there that it would be pretty taboo to have anything written in english ya know? It would not surprise me if they did not mark them like the ones here. Another friend of mine (these are co-worker friends) is heading to Qatar on Sunday. He was there a couple of months ago and was at some place that he said he saw the most badass hookah he has ever seen for $100 U.S. The ones he brought back that were $40 were nice. One looked like a crystal base but for the price I don't think so. But they (he has 3) were incredible. I told him to pick me up one of the $100 ones while he is there. He will be back the Sept. 6 so that is a date I look forward to.The friend in Jordan right now is coming back Wednesday but he is shipping whatever he gets back here. The airports are too crazy right now to go through any extra headache. I am only having him (the guy in Jordan now)pick up one hookah for me in case he has bad taste in hookahs! He doesn't know anything at all about them. At least the guy leaving Sunday has some experience and owns a few of his own. Plus like me, he has experience in machining and metal fabrication that can be a plus when looking for something well made... functional design can be deceptive though. Something can be made to look really nice and totally suck unfortunately.

Yeah right), there was the word "Mya" imprinted at the very top of the downstem, where it screws into the main part of the stem. That is the only place I remember seeing any labeling.

On another thread when my buddy first went to Dubai and took a pic, "Thepyrofish" posted that his friend had a couple of hookahs from Dubai that turned out to be MYA's. Here is the link to that http://www.hookahforum.com/forum/forum_pos...PID=42951#42951It seems like more people remarked about MYA's in the UAE though.

Even if it was 1863, I don't think it makes any difference. I mean, it's a hookah. A very, very simple machine in the grand scheme of things. Even if a company started making them TODAY, it would be pretty easy to get it at least mostly right. I think what it comes down to most of the time, for a lot of people, is aesthetics. Yeah, some hookahs just don't smoke right. But I've got a little Mitsuba that I got from Social Smoke a while back (their Junior Modern), and it smokes great, and is built just as well as many Myas I have seen. Myas are beautiful hookahs that smoke well. If you like them, buy one. But don't be afraid to give some of the other brands out there a try.

I know that because of my situation and having people making trips to the mideast that the opportunity to get a premium hookah or four for a really good deal. It's an honor to me to have a CEO of a company of 40 years to personally address and clarify these questions. If I do not get a MYA on this venture I will definately own one or more before it is all over. It's definately the brand that the majority seems to love and standby. Kudos to you and your company. 40 years and going strong says an awful lot!
I agree with a lot of this statemment but I do believe that a company that stays on top of it's game a has partnerships for their own materials they use etc. has an advantage on a new company. It does not mean that they have a corner on the market but they should have a significant advantage over startup companies. Just to stay in business for 40 years deserves respect. to put out a respectful product and one that I have heard them replacing parts for free when at times it would be questionable on whether customer stupidity caused the problem speaks volumes as well. I have yet to hear where a Mitsubi owner (my one and only for now) has received that sort of service after the sale. Initial sale is important but it is only a small factor wen things go bad. I understand the statement but going off of other threads and remarks about the way MYA treats it's customers makes a big impact on me.

I have had friends buy Mitsuba Hookahs, and while some of there models look like pieces of art, they smoke like pieces of shit. The hoses alone make up 90% of them problem, the other 10 is the cheap materials they use making the hookahs break after use for more then a few months. Either buy real deal hookahs made in egypt or the like, or Mya.
