Moki
I don't have any, but I'm thinking about buying one. Does it makes a difference when it comes to, say, number of coals you need for a good smoke? Without it, 3, with it, 2? Or is it not necessary? Zildjian
I use 3 coals, but when they are starting to die down i put one on and its smoking for another 20+ min again. So they make a difference in that regard.
atalanta
I just got one, mainly to protect the carpet. I put it on when I'm starting to help get the shisha started then I put it back on again when I'm down to my last few cinders to get those last few puffs out of the shisha. Chreees
I say yes- I use two coals and put the windcover on when the smoke is not as good, and then take it off if it starts to get harsh. I have it on a good bit of my session usually. So I save a coal each round of coals I smoke. I think everyone should have one.
Epoch
When the coals dwindle, put the wind screen on and keep smoking! Get one.
vendetta_revived
I couldn't get one locally and the shipping for getting one from the US was exorbitant, so I just made one myself and it works great! I have one on for the better part of my sessions!

Floataround
I use mine to start the session, take it off when after it gets going, and then put it back on after I flip my coals.

A13lackFish
Great Success wind covers, problem is they wont fit certain bowls. So make sure its the right size before you go and invest in one. Def helps to get those last bits of coals to spark up for an extra 10-
littlec
I have two, use them constantly, it's almost as a no brainer as buying an electric burner for coals, gotta have one/make one.

Chreees
Do wind covers actually make a difference when smoking indoors with no substantial breeze/moving air?
Yes. Because when inside, you're not using them for blocking the wind. You're using them as a tool for heat management. It increases the heat just right without you having to use an extra coal. Or it can buy you a little bit longer when your coals are going out. As C said, no brainer.
Take a sheet of aluminum foil. Fold it over a few times. Fold the edges over a bit for increased durability. Wrap it around a can. Fit it to your bowl, then tape it on the outside (inside will just make the tape's adhesive melt away). Crinkle the edge that sits on the bowl so that you can easily remove it if need be. Makes kinda like a hat. I call this the "Crown" Foil Windcover! A13lackFish
At its price, there's no reason to not just get a real windcover and save yourself the hassle of trying to fit tinfoil. Plus a windcover cosmetically will look a hell of alot better if your into that stuff.
