Kris Juniata
Hey guys, I live in Montreal and am wondering where can I order those: - Tobacco for my arguilehs - Charcoal Also, how do you guys with glasstop stoves light your charcoals? I don't like those little round ones that light themselves up. They smell like CO2 and give a bad taste or so I find. I mean real actual small pieces of coal? Often I've seen ones that come in cubes but those need exposed fire for a good 5-10 minutes to go alight, so how do you guys do it? A small camping gas stove thingie? Can you buy those online? Thanks!!
Hellz
hookah-shisha.com should ship to canada, and they have everything you are looking for. If I'm not mistaken they also sell single coil burners, which are perfect for lighting natural coals. I suggest getting coconaras or something along those lines. Kris Juniata
So I checked out hookah-shisha.com and apparently to ship to Montreal, it's gonna cost me at least 40-50$ in shipping. Any other alternative?

herbalsmoke
I am from Toronto and i ordered from 5 star, shipping was also 45$ but i shipped a whole crapload of stuff. The thing with Canadian shipping is it is done by weight, Lets just say your order is shipped in a 5 pound shipment box and your order is only 2 pounds, you might as well get more stuff and fill up that box till 5 pounds cause shipping would still be the same. [/quote] That is somewhat true and not. With USPS it does depend on weight, however they do offer Small, Medium and Large Flat Rate Boxes. I am assuming at this moment, Small will be too small for your order. So with the medium and large, most of the time a lot of things fit in these and basically "if it fits it ships". To Kris : Yes, that rate you received from H-S is pretty much normal.....depending on what you were ordering and how heavy it was.
Kris Juniata
Damn.. I didn't realise online shipping would cost that much. Ah well, I guess I'll stop being lazy and go do some shopping in real instead of online. Still, any advice on shops in Montreal that can sell me tobacco, coal and a coil burner? Mahir
It's because you are ordering from a company outside of Canada, thus making the shipping costs higher since its an international shipment. From my knowledge, you will be shocked when you see shisha prices in Canada, as there is a heavy tax on it. On top of that, the selection is rather slim. I say this based on what I have heard. It may be different in Montreal.
Kris Juniata
Well damn, I'm out of luck then? I guess I'll just have to wait until some relative goes and comes back from Lebanon to pack me up a bunch with them.
Mahir
I would obviously still look around locally first before claiming total defeat.
herbalsmoke
I agree in Toronto a 50gram box of Al Fakher is 13$ plus taxes, and all they sell are china hookah's. If you do the math and split the shipment between the orders and things you buy online would still be cheaper then buying 13$ for 50 grams locally. Also you have a bigger selection, better brands and better qaulity. I was very hesitant about ordering online also, but it has been a lot better then what i can find locally. atalanta
Now I don't know how far you are from the border, but I had a friend in Canada whose husband would be on this side so often they had a post box. Anything she ordered from the states would go to the post box and her husband would check it when he came over. My sister was in upper NY State for school and said a LOT of people from Quebec came over the border to the mall there.
Kris Juniata
I'm in Montreal.. Honestly I'm largely satisfied with Al Fakher which is my usual brand in Lebanon. I guess Nakhle has a good reputation too, I'd be satisfied with either of them if I can find them locally. I just have no clue where to look. herbalsmoke
Im pretty sure it was somewhere around $25 for 250 grams. Not that sure I only asked once and never bought any.
magick777
We face similar problems in the United Kingdom, where shisha is hard to find and subject to punitive tax regimes, and where shipping it in from anywhere else is normally expensive and risky. I have a couple suggestions for you: Find your coal and other supplies locally; it won't be highly taxed and there won't be a need to ship it from abroad. Use whatever is local; most of the Middle Eastern coals I buy locally are better, subjectively, than the coconut coals I've had delivered. In turn, you can then limit the cost and risk of an international order to the 3 x 250g of shisha that does fit neatly in a USPS Small Flat Rate box; this has the advantage that you don't have to be at home to receive it as it fits through the typical letter box and it also reduces the shipping cost and risk. For instance, hookah1.com have Salloum for $6 / pack and a small USPS flat rate box to Canada for $15, so you're looking at $33 delivered for 3 x 250g packs. In my humble opinion, it may be wiser and more sustainable to repeat this as needed than to risk large amounts of money on filling a larger box or to pay the inflated prices charged locally.
