Bad Taste...

Recommended Posts

I have a km pear, a nammor hose, Egyptian bowl, and vortex bowl and I usually smoke AF double apple. I clean my hookah regularly. I can't figure out what is giving me a bad taste!!! Can old bowls give off a bad taste??

Thanks!

I'd say the bad taste is the double apple. Buuuut, thats just an opinion... You forgot a couple details. What kind of coals are you using, how many, and do you rotate them at all?

Could be you need to really wash it good. Soak it in vinegar and Lemon juice there's a thread here somewhere about that.
Otherwise are you shure its really a maya sometimes you get Fakes that start to rust. And rust is the worst taste you can get in an Hookah.
You said you have a nammor hose so it cant be that. Edited by S3cretz

Pretty sure she said she owns and is using a KM Pear...

As for bad taste Gigi, couple things...

1. How do you clean your hookah? Your hose?
2. Is the Vortex bowl fully cleaned? Are the little holes clogged at all?
3. What Katie mentioned... Are all the insides of your hookah fully clear and cleaned? When I got my OG Trimetal, it took me a good deal of cleaning to knock this horrible stank out of my hose port. Been smoking great ever since. The guy before me never cleaned it very well.
4. Judging by your post count, you probably know what you're doing, so have you changed anything recently in the way you smoke? Have you changed what coals you use? The way you pack?

These are just thoughts off the top of my head...

Id say clean the hookah, use rubbing alcohol, salt, dawn, and hot water mix for the base. For the stem, add a small amount of dawn to the brush, and then brush the stem from both the top and bottom.

Open the purge, take the ball out and clean that.

Wash the bowl with dawn and hot water, and scrub it with your fingers.

The hose, depending on your method, you can either clean with hot water & rubbing alcohol, or dawn and hot water, and make sure to rinse it out completely so the water comes out with no bubbles or smell.

I had a batch of AF cocktail that just tasted off. Try a different flavor and see if it still has that bad taste. If it is still bad then it might be your pipe/hose if not they its most likely a bad batch of DA.

Some of these answers are a little sketchy, but some I completely agree with.

Things that make hookah taste bad:
- Improper heat management: Check to make sure you are over/underheating your bowl, moving coals, etc...

- Hookah Hygiene: As you can probably tell, this is the number one answer for hookah taste problems. I own two brass pipes which are notorious for bad tastes. To clean them out had have them tasting neutral once again, I use a stem brush and lukewarm water, occasionally using vinegar/lemon juice if it's really bad that particular day. For the base, swish around hot water in the base, dump it out, fill it with hot water and lemon juice and let the full base sit while you clean the rest of your hookah. All you really need is lemon juice, vinegar, water and a brush. I can't condone the necessity of rubbing alcohol, dawn, gasoline, or any other highly toxic substance.

- Hoses: Make sure you run lemon juice or vinegar through your hose, then hot water afterwards. Residue left in hoses is a huge problem for strange/unwanted tastes in your session.

All in all, I would have to say it's some sort of residue from lack of cleaning or improper cleaning. Sometimes, you need to get down and dirty and do some serious cleansing/scrubbing. My motto is, if you can take a draw off of your rig without a bowl/coals on it and you don't make a disgusted face, then your hookah is properly cleaned and ready to be enjoyed. If you make a nasty face when there isn't a bowl or coals on the rig, all you're doing is masking a bad flavor with a stronger. more enjoyable flavor. It's a good way to test your hookah's cleanliness.

I agree with the bottom bold portion of the above. Have used this test myself many a time.
