Weird Symptoms

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, was worried so just wanted to see if anyone knows or has gone through something similar. About every other time I smoke Hookah, I get these weird spasms. It feels like I have the chills but it's more like whole body spasms. I smoke like a tenth of what my friends smoke. I don't know what is causing it. My heart also beats faster but I'm guessing that's just the nicotine, but what is not normal to me is that it also beats much harder, even up to like 5 hours after it is beating very hard and my body is warm. Anyone one have any ideas?

I'm no doctor and I'm sure someone else will have a better response than mine.

I'd honestly attribute all of your symptoms to the nicotine. It acts sort of like caffeine so an overload may mean your body just can't handle the doses (or hasn't gotten used to them) It's my guess you respond strongly to caffeine and other products. If that's the case then you have your answer!

Look up a condition called atrial fibrillation - which can be triggered by caffeine, nicotine, or carbon monoxide, amongst other things. I am also not a doctor, but

1) Before we attribute your symptoms to the nicotine, what shisha are you smoking? (please tell me it's not Tangiers F-Line...)
2) What coals are you using, and are they lit right through before you start?
3) Are you smoking in a well-ventilated area?
4) Do you routinely smoke cigarettes? (will increase tolerance)
5) Are you drinking water or juice with your shisha, or are you combining it with coffee, alcohol, or energy drinks?

Finally, I would not be scared to talk to your doctor about this, even if you suspect it is self-inflicted and the answer is obvious. This is not an excess of caution about something more serious; if you are prone to such things, then they may be able to prescribe a low dose beta-blocker, such as propranolol, which would help to control your symptoms.

Obviously, avoiding the triggers is the better strategy and, for the avoidance of doubt, I am not suggesting that you take medication in order to be able to smoke shisha, merely that the symptoms you describe are treatable with beta-blockers and you may wish to discuss this with your doctor.

I agree. That's why we gave doctors. They tell us what's wrong with us

1. Last night it was Tangiers yes. It is at a hookah bar/restaurant, so not sure if it was F line. Had pineapple/cherry.
2. Coals were the rock looking ones. And pretty lit all throughout.
3. We smoked outside.
4. Don't smoke cigarettes, despise them actually.
5. I always make sure to order 1 bottle of water with my hookah to keep hydrated.

Adding to the see a doctor thread.

Now, someone commented on A-Fib. I have been an EMS worker for almost 4 years, and A-Fib can be something that comes in waves, it is much more common to be a constant thing. But to really get it diagnosed, you need to get an EKG done by your doctor, and then possibly get put on medications to regulate it. The next time you experience whatever it is your experiencing, have someone take your pulse and count it out. It sound be at a steady rythem. Anything else is considered irregular, and could mean a ton of things. Also look at the number. Anything more then 90 while sitting is something to be concerned about.
