JDHarding
I'm getting pretty thin, pathetic clouds out of my hookah. I own a KM Signature Ice, and as far as I know it's completely air-tight. I plugged the top and sucked on the hose and nothing came out, so it's pretty tight. Tangiers medium phunnel, packed with regular tangiers to just below the rim of the middle hole so the coals are sure not to touch the shisha, and using 3 of John's new coals. Even with a wind cover I'm getting pretty pathetic smoke, not even thick enough to blow smoke rings. Should I go up to 4 coals? 5 coals? These coals are not as hot as the older ones. A13lackFish
3 of Johns coals should handle it fine, make sure to poke the holes evenly and distribute the coals evenly around the bowl. Also make sure that the coals are fully lit before taking them off the stove, and make sure that those Johns coals are not his insta lights because imo they are useless. Naturals are the only way. Also make sure the spire is not getting sucked down on by the tin foil on your phunnel. Hopefully a more knowledgeable smoker of tangiers can help you with a packing method you may be doing wrong. mustang67n
make sure the tobacco is packed tight. if it's not in there tight, it has a hard time heating up all the tobacco fully and it will result in lacking smoke. make sure the foil is pulled very tight over the bowl. this keeps the tobacco from touching the coals and also keeps the foil from sucking down over the spire and effectively clogging it up. other than that, IDK what else is important with tangiers compared to other shisha.. should be working

Chreees
JD, you should know better my brotha... Pack that shit tight (like it comes in the package when you first open it) and up to the rim. Don't worry about it touching the foil. EDIT: Just check out my thread, should help: http://www.hookahfor...smoke-tangiers/ For a medium, three or four coals should be fine.
Pack it up, yo! Everyone's sorta giving the same advice. See, this is the problem with returning after a long hiatus and completely forgetting to pack it tightly. I've been packing it sorta loosely, and at least 1/4 an inch below the foil. Too much room, I guess? Thanks for the info, everyone. I'll repack and try again. joelhookah
Yeah, Tangiers you are supposed to pack tight son. Me and my boy burt made the same mistakes when we first started smoking Tangiers.
JDHarding
Whooo shit, man.. Packed tight this time. No middle holes. Only 2 coals and it's smoking crazy. I remember I used to bust these in half, so I'll have to start doing that again.
Check out the Official Tangiers Thread in the Vendor Section. You may be able to pick up a few tips from other members. I would examine your packing technique before adding more heat. It sounds like you make be packing your bowl too low. Its ok for the foil and the tobacco to touch. A few questions to help us pinpoint what the problem could be: Is your smoke harsh? Are you getting flavor to come through? What is the flavor like (almost nothing, full flavor, plasticy/metallic)?Are you getting any buzz? How intense is the buzz if any? Is any juice streaming out the sides of the bowl (I'm guess that this is unlikely since you are packing the tobacco so low). There are numerous video tutorials about packing tangiers. Some are better than others. You will hear lots of different opinions about packing. The most important thing is to find a way that works for you. Let us know how the next pack turns out
JD, you should know better my brotha...
Funny, I just had this conversation with Kevin and Evan. We have concluded that the package density is way too dense to be packing it in the bowl. I figure its probably not that dense in SD but after being stuffed in a box and traveling 3000+ miles it probably settles a little. lol I have a medium phunnel. JDHarding
I use 3 halves now. I notice when I pack it tight, it doesn't smoke as big, but the smoke is very smooth and there's a lot of flavor. I taste sugar every time I smoke. I think I prefer it this way. Now I understand why Eric uses 4 japanese coals.. 'cause they're little and they don't burn too hot. John's coals, however, burn pretty hot. JDHarding
I packed it light this time 'cause packing it tight wasn't letting the heat get all the way down inside the shisha. But I packed it full up to the top. Now I'm getting good clouds and flavor. Using 5 quarter pieces of coal and a foil wind cover. I think the cold is affecting the heat. It's freezing in Washington.
