Scalliwag
If this hookah was made in India in 1576 would they have engraved that in english? It's a neat looking hookah but it looks like somebody is trying to blow smoke up somebodies buttocks maybe?http://cgi.ebay.com/53-Hookah-Made-in-Indi...1QQcmdZViewItem
Bleeding_Heart1
it was probabaly carved into. I dont think its a true 1576 hookah. You would think the brass would crack or even be dented in some way...
dikydave
wouldnt think that the hookah makers of 1576 would just go around carving "1576" into every hookah made either.
ioannisds
No. Flippin'. Way. Is that thing over 400 years old. All those little brass pieces of fringe are still on it? The date is engraved? With the word India in English? BULLSHIAT. Probably picked it up at Cost Plus.

betsy
and if you really thought it was that old wouldn't you get it antique (artifact even?) certified?maybe the number is just like, a model or fabrication number. i wouldn't doubt that it's old, but i wouldn't give it too much over 100, if that. Claytron
I dunno. The first one listed does look pretty old to me. Who knows if it's actually from 1576. My guess would be no... but if you're sighting the engraving as the source of 'whackdom' then that doesn't really make sense. Obviously whomever made it did not carve that. All it takes is a monkey with an engraving tool do add that to it. My guess is it IS an antiuque (though the year is suspect) and at some point, some antique store own decided to carve it up. That's the most likely scenario. It is possible that it is from the year claimed. But the value is in the eye of the beholder. You have to want something like that irreguardless of whether it is from 1576 or not to buy such a thing.
