Stuie
So my wife has this theory that kids closer in age are closer to each other. Examining everyone we know this typically held true. Found 1 instance it didn't. So the magic number seemed to be 2 years apart. Now that we have #2 about 2 years apart...I am leaning to my mom's theory, Don't have another one until the first one is in kindergarten. Let's just say, that come 9pm when both kids are in bed, my wife and i can't move. And we pat ourselves on the back for the fact that we made it through another day without giving away one of the kids. Sleep - Gone Patience - Gone Sanity - Gone Clean House - Gone Time to Self - Gone Time with spouse - Gone Don't get me wrong I love my kids! Just wait until the first one is potty trained. 2 year old singing the lullaby you wrote for her after being put to bed - Priceless 2 month old laughing and smiling whenever I get home - Priceless 2 year old loving on the 2 month old - Priceless Both Kid laying on the couch with me while I watch M*A*S*H - Priceless Hearing unprompted "I Love You" - Priceless Playing with both of them - Priceless. jorlyfish
I think kids that are *too* close in age can also clash. My dad and his brother are about 17 months apart - basically, as soon as my grandmother could get pregnant again, she did. They've butted heads their whole lives, even to this day. They're the only two kids. Aaaand it just so happens that this same uncle has two kids who are 3.5 and 2. The older one runs away from the younger one, doesn't want to touch him, much less play with him. I've seen him cry a few times because his little brother (who, mind you, hasn't been mobile that long) has tried to hold on to him for balance, has sat too close to him, come too close to where he was playing, etc.

Zildjian
my sister and I are 4 years apart and we are the closest siblings I know. There is a difference between loving a family member, and genuinely liking them, I am fortunate to have both with my sister.
Hellz
my daughter and her sister are 3 years apart, and they are pretty close despite her not seeing her sister 75% of the time.
