Floataround
Hahaha alright. I will stick to my egyptian for now. Should I look into a phunnel bowl? (It's funny I have heard quite a lot of people swear by the vortex)
The only people that seem to really like the vortex bowl are the people on Hookah-shisha.com. Reviews are so positive for it IMO because everyone hears about the phunnel bowl, and they only sell Chinese ones, so the vortex is going to look better then a phunnel because they are not Tangiers phunnels. I cant link you because I am at work but you can buy a Tangiers Phunnel (I think smalls are sold out right now) at Hookah John, as well as a mini alien phunnel.
Yea, I bought cleaning brushes with everything else I ordered from Nazar, so cleaning will be a regular thing after each smoke. I know how to clean everything but are there any hints for drying everything out?
Leave it all out on the drainboard for a few hours.
Difference between Tangiers Phunnel and an alien phunnel? Im seriously considering getting a smaller egyptian and might eventually get a wind cover. I've never used one though, and things have smoked and tasted just fine.
IainUM
i wouldnt waste money on a smaller egyptian if you already have one.if you are going to make another order get a tangiers phunnel (small would probably be best). the alien mini is ok, but after learning this today, a tang phunnel is just better. it uses more shisha, but it is worth it, because the smoke is much better. if you have your heart set on saving ~10 grams of shisha, get the alien, but the tang phunnels are worth the extra bit. trust me. the smaller egyptian wont save you much more tobacco, either, so it is just redundant if you have a larger one that came with your km
Chreees
Some will agree with me, while others will not... Tangiers phunnels over the Alien (and other phunnel brands for that matter). Why? Because Eric makes his phunnel bowls with a certain depth to width ratio that he believes is needed for it to smoke properly. Having smoked from different phunnels (Tangiers Mini and Small, Alien, and Crown Micro), the Tangiers bowls win over the rest. Alien is way too shallow/wide. The Crown phunnels are actually pretty darn spot-on in terms of mimicking the depth/width ratio of Tangiers phunnel bowls, but still, clay retains heat better than glass. I recommend the Crown glass bowls anyday and erryday, however. Excellent bowls. Second only to Tangiers ones, of course. Want my personal advice? Hold off buying any additional bowls for now. Word on the street (interwebz) is Tangiers Mini Phunnels *MAY* be available for retail sale soon. So why not just enjoy what you have for right now, then in a bit look into getting a Tangiers phunnel? In my opinion, the Tang Mini is the best, but the Small is only a bit bigger and if you employ the saving methods I mentioned earlier, the size really starts to not matter as much. Problem is the Mini is a bitch to find right now (Eric has only released them in special group buys, pretty much). Hopefully it hits the online vendors soon (I really hope it does, because I feel everyone should own one). If it's not here when you're ready to "upgrade" (some would argue that trying Tangiers is not upgrading, but I think they're just crazy ), then just go with a Tangiers Small Phunnel from HookahCompany.com, UltimateHookah.com, HookahJohn.com, or 5StarHookah.com. Those are the main sites that carry the best selection (colors) for Tangiers phunnels. I second Iain on not bothering with a smaller Egyptian. I've seen both sizes and the small really isn't that much smaller than the one that should come with your KM. Hope this helps. Oh, and I thank YOU for this thread, because it prompted me to type out my methods for saving Tangiers, which I ended up adding to my Ultimate Guide. Floataround
Alien is way too shallow/wide.
Just wondering, have you smoked from the 2nd gen alien? I am not disagreeing, a tangiers phunnel WILL smoke better, but I do not think its leaps and bounds better. Even though I only have a second gen alien, I can tell it is much better then the first, as it improved on the depth and width issues. I also think it saves much more than just 10 grams If this is someones picture, I am sorry! I just found it on google. 1st gen on the left, 2nd on the right http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/444/p1030012r.jpg/sr=
Chreees
Nope. I haven't tried a 2nd gen one, because it doesn't seem to be that much different than the 1st one. Tangiers bowls are as deep as they are for a reason. Like I said, some people will agree with me, others will not... Alien bowl just isn't for me, but a lot of others love it. Floataround
Bottom line at the end of the day..everyone has their own way of doing things, so just do what works for you! Just dont be afraid to experiment, says the owner for multiple egpyitan, a vortex bowl, a small tangiers phunnel, an alien phunnel, and I just ordered my flying saucer bowl

When I first got into hookah, and started learning about it, I thought it was a really touchy complicated thing, that could go horribly wrong. Im glad to find out it's pretty much just learning, experiencing, and trying different things. Thanks for all the info. Im sure I will have more questions and time goes on. Now I just have to wait for my KM to arrive. It should be getting here by Friday.
gramps
Maybe the Tangiers Mini will be available by the time I have some spare money. Any word on a possible date it will be available?
joytron
Ugh, Chris I have no idea why you start rumors like this. I would just go ahead and assume it will never be available for retail.
IainUM
there has been people mumbling about it as a possibility but there has been no word from eric on whether it is going to be re-released, let alone an approximate date. he is coming out with a bunch of new products this month, but no one knows what it will be yet at all
Chreees
Lol, Eric just posted elsewhere he will NEVER produce it for retail, after what many assumed were hints he would be bringing them retail, hence why I mentioned it... Just stick with a small I guess, and if the Minis ever happen, they happen. *sigh*

Teganv
Another stupid question, im not even sure I should bother asking. A Tangier bowl, isn't just for smoking Tangier tobacco right? That would seem a little too specialty for me, unless your that dedicated to smoking Tangier.

joytron
I really wouldnt worry about picking up a tangiers bowl, especially if you think the egyptian is large. Just stick with what you have and wait until you need to make another order for shisha before thinking about new bowls.

Teganv
So, I know it's hard to believe, but...I have another question. What's a diffuser? How is it used? Opinions on it?
joytron
What it does is debatable, my friend has one for watching movies and all I think it does is make the hookah quieter. People talk about smoother smoke and better flavor and while I disagree I suggest you try it yourself and find out. http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-1341-heba-diffuser-hookah-smoke-diffuser.html
Floataround
So, I know it's hard to believe, but...I have another question. What's a diffuser? How is it used? Opinions on it?
Like Joytron said, it really just seems to make it quieter. The idea behind the smoothness is that instead of the smoke just coming out and floating up through the water, it is forced to go through the holes making it smoother. I used the diffuser he posted and I really only noticed the lack of sound. A lot of modern hookahs (some KM's, Farida's, etc) have some sort of "diffusers" built onto them. You are looking for a little bulb like shape at the end of your downstem to determine if you have one. And just like the add on diffuser...all I can notice is that it makes less noise. I attribute the draw and smoothness to that of the entire hookah and heat management.
