S3cretz
Ok so I decided im going to take this idea and roll with it. Wich means : Alot better videos(Working on an intro now) More factual results (some science stuff thermometers and such. Density and volume other jargon.) So first off big myths will be covered in 10 - 15 minute videos. Also some obscure how to vids not basic stuff like packing a bowl but things like making shure your foil does not melt. And smaller myths will be handled with text like below. Myth : Poking holes in the middle of the foil on a phunnel makes for a better smoke. Status: Busted! Reason : Because with the hole being right above the hole in the downstem pieces of ash tend to get into the stem alot easier. Why is this bad those little pieces of ash sometimes end up in your hose or your mouth. And no one likes ash in their mouth. And yes even if holes arent directly above the hole ash will still go down the stem. But not as much. Next week : Can you light a natural coal using just 1 ql and does it affect the taste of the natural.
Bawhee
ive tried that one, you can but its terribly impractical, also dont think it changes the flavor but my nats were shit and ive only had one pack of them so im no expert hope you get some more decent results! Arcane
[quote name='S3cretz' timestamp='1325624551' post='534471'] Myth : Poking holes in the middle of the foil on a phunnel makes for a better smoke. I'd hate to think what other myths you'd try and "bust". Eric, President/Creator/BigWig of Tangiers, recommends poking holes all over the foil (to include over the spire). I don't agree with his theory that it's better in general, however I do agree that it reduces the risk of overheating a bowl due to coal inactivity. It seems that having holes over the spire gives the heat a way to escape. Thus, if you were to leave your coals unattended for an extended period of time, there's less chance of the bowl overheating. Every time I've been to the lounge, Eric is usually multi-tasking or pre-occupied with other activites besides smoking. His pipe sits idle for quite some time. This is why I think Eric suggests using holes over the spire, but that's just speculation on my part. Also, you mentioned that having holes over the spire would cause someone to possibly inhale ash. If the ash was able to travel down the stem, through the water, float back into the chamber and through the hose - into your mouth...then it's probably possesed by some hookah demons or charcoal gnomes. Poking holes isn't going to stop it. If you do get some grit in your mouth, it's probably rust.

kcK
Sorry, but Jay did kind of completely ruin your first one almost immediately. I gotta say, stick to things that can actually be proved.. And not by flimsy logic. Not trying to be mean, im sure you remember me from tinychat earlier. Just saying, s'all.

mustang67n
the goza thread inspired me.. Katie says that the goza gives mroe of a buzz due to the super wide draw, and short distance from the head and the tip of the hose.. SO theory.. super wide downstem, super short stem, with bassically NO hose.. think.. badass hookah bong.. who wants to test this? Just to see if the buzz would be exagerrated due to the shortness of the pipe along with the girth of the stem.. who wants to do it?

Chreees
Can't use a Mya, Pavo... Super wide diameter, remember? I thought the same thing: "A Mya QT should give a hella big buzz if you hit from the hose port." But then I remembered Katie said wide gauge, no restriction whatsoever coupled in as well.
