Black Spots On A Leather Hose?

Recommended Posts

So one of my Elmas hoses that I've had for about a year has developed black spots on the leather. The leather is intact, but the spots are there:

Seems like this is the hose rotting from the inside out? If so, why is it in such discrete mold-like spots, and why does the leather seem fine, apart from discoloration? If it can get worse, can I slow it down by blowing out stray smoke from the house at the end of a session?

Do have rats, cause that looks like the plaque.

Boom, Stuie hit it on the head. It's the bubonic plague, Elder Chris. Keep using it though, as it would seem you are immune.

I've been wondering what those are too. Have them on one of my hoses as well.

This explains so much.

Oh, thank God it's not just me then. Do you still smoke out of those hoses?
[/quote]

Yup. And they are fine. I wouldn't really worry about it.

Adds character, huh?

I honestly think this whole black spots issue is the damn coal gnomes... They used yous guys' hoses to wipe their asses after they finished shitting in your freshly packed bowls. How did you not notice, you ask? They are that damn good.

Yeah like I said in TC... (i will repeat here for yalls information)

Eric says that it looks like hose rot. Condesation forms in the inside of the bowl. it slowly starts to soften the leather on the inside and leaks outward causing the spots. slowly the spots will grow and the leather will rip. He said the same thing happened to his Turkish hose.

Glad Eric chimed in. I was going to suggest the round shapes looked like drip marks, say from a drink or perhaps when (if) you pulled your head to blow out the ash/cool it down sorta thing it may have dripped a little juice without you noticing. Or perhaps water dripped from the exterior of the hookah if you washed it just prior to using. But sounds like Eric would have a better understandign than I would.

I'm very interested in the results of the hookah hose surgery. Or is it an autopsy?
