Reheating Your Bowl?

Recommended Posts

I've read comments a while ago about people using the large Tangiers phunnel bowl and using it over a course of 2 days or something. Saying they reheat it, I believe. Every time I've left a bowl unfinished and went back to reheat it, it has always tasted like a**. Is there a special trick in doing this? Or is it a general rule not to do it...and I just misread things I read when I first was looking upt stuff on the site?

even though i am having my fair share of troubles with tangiers, I believe the general consenses is to take out whats burned and add a fresh layer on top.

I too have never been able to come back to a bowl the next day and not have it taste like ass. I too have read those posts during my time here. Not sure how they do it. Only way I've been able to do it is what Float mentioned- replacing the top layer that was burnt with fresh stuff. I don't believe I really inquired about it before, so can't give anything more than that. Maybe the guys who do it can tell you how they make it happen.

yeah you can scrape of the top layer a little bit of the wet layer underneath and then put fresh stuff on top. But if it sits out in the open all night then you might encounter some acclimation issues with the old stuff on the bottom.

I do this on the regular.. I've had bowls last me 3/4 days. When I come back the next day, the flavor isn't as epic as it is when it's fresh, but it is definitely still there, and not like ass. It usually takes a bit more heat/time to get the clouds going, but It'll last me a few days.

I do not scrape the top layer and come back.. i just smoke it as is. *shrugs*

I can't not get good session out of a "necro" bowl. I think I know what you talking about Smokes, i wouldn't say its an ass taste (not that I know what thats like ) but When I have tried to get it going withe rlater in the day or the next, it has a very off taste. Only has a hint of what the flavor is supposed to be and the weird overpowering flavor that just seems to come out of the blue. If I use my tang small phunnel i will smoke the bowl to death...usually 3 sets of coals. and 3-4 people smoking. Just not into reheating or "necro bowls"

It depends on how long the 1st session lasted. I smoked my Tangiers in an Alien on Tuesday and will go back and finish it off tonight. I usually only smoke 1 hour sessions so there is plenty of good tobacco left. If you smoke for 2-3 hours on an Alien and try to necro the following day, you are basically smoking all the burnt baccy.

P.S. I usually necro bowls as I can not smoke for 2-3 hours. Although the flavor isnt as fresh as the first smoke, it is still good.

ok people now is my time to shine becuase im doing it as we speak ahhhh snap.
Well first off u gotta pack it right no hard feeling Chreeeess or michaelLCP!! loli told him that when he came over lol and second u gotta just wait for it to warm up properly, so what i do since i do this pretty damn often is get ur 3 coals that u usually use put them in the center TRUST ME do it its what i do and then it might take a whole round of coals to get to the right smoke for u then slowly move them to where u have them. so i dont have my phunnels anymore since i've had 2 break in a week and my friend has my alien phunnel so im using the flip and i just re lit this like a boss.

so all in all you reallly need to pack it right and also depends how long you have smoked it for previously

I reuse bowls all the time!

When I was smoking all the time I could get 12-16 hours on a small Tangiers Phunnel; usually over the course of 2-3 days.

I may try and find the "tail" method somewhere on here in a bit to show you kinda how I would do that on a regular basis.

I once relit a bowl of Cane Mint after a week and had a good 3 hour smoke.

I once relit a bowl of AF lemon mint after two weeks without even refoiling and had a good 2 hour smoke.

I don't always necro bowls, but when I do, I don't have a problem.

The only tangiers flavor I have any luck reusing are the super potent ones - cane mint and occasionally the kashmirs. Noir seems to hold its flavor better than lucid for the second day but its also possible I didn't smoke it as long on the first pass.

I guess some of us are tobacco necromancers . Ive necroed a med phunnel for 3 days with mimon , no new layers no new foil just more coal . was good till that last two hours when it was more smoke than flavor .

Thanks for all of the great replies! Those that relight them...do you cover the foil at all when you are done, or just leave it out in the open and just let it sit?

As the other lazy people said: just leave it. I don't even knock the coal ash off!

If you're really feeling ambitious, you can take the burnt stuff off the top and replace it with fresh tobacco.

Ok, I found the "tail method"
http://www.hookahforum.com/topic/21885-foiling-a-bowl-the-tail-method/page__hl__tail

I do something similar to this.
I prepare the bowl like normal but don't poke holes.
I then take another sheet of foil and place it lightly over the bowl and lightly scrunch it down.
Then with your poking device cut out a triangle section 1/6th of the circle the bowl makes.
Then you poke holes only in the area right underneath the cut out section.
Place your single coal there, and smoke away!
Saves shisha and coals!
I'll get my mspaint skills going to give you a better idea cause I'm at work and cant take pictures.

Ok, I made this really quick.
This kind of gives you an idea.
Basically you have an extra sheet of foil that acts as a guide for where you have already smoked.
You poke the holes only over the new area and it keeps air from coming through old areas you already smoked from.
Also, what's different about this method over the "tail" method, is that you dont have to mess with burned shisha sticking to the bottom of foil you are trying to move.
You put your coal in the open area where the holes are poked in the picture.
I have found that with a small phunnel you can do about 2-3 rounds with one coal each round before you have to go to the next section.
The second round is not quite, as good as the first, but still very good.
Once you have smoked up that section; loosen the foil guide part with the hole cut in it, twist it over until you have new fresh foil under it, poke new holes, throw on a new coal and enjoy!

Brilliant, but a whole lotta trouble. :)

Sometime i simply replace the top layer, sometime i pull the top layer off and chuck it, then mix the moist stuff below with fresh stuff and repack the whole bowl.

Interesting. Next time I'm smoking and not drinking I'll try that.

Lol I couldn't even TYPE that with a straight face.
