What Do I Need?

Recommended Posts

Over the last 6 months I feel like Nammor hoses have gone downhill in construction. The last 3 (including the one I bought for wade) have leaked. My new Razan washable is perfect. Best washable hose IMO.

How much do the razan hoses usually run for?
Mine are pretty old and I haven't tried any other washable hose so I can't recommend one over the other.

I'm just saying shop around.

EDIT: It should also be said that a recent review is more relevant than one from several years back. Edited by Skoozle

Do we not recommend Nammor/Razan/other larger diameter washable hoses anymore?

It also depends on your budget and what you can get locally.
I sure as hell do! I <3 my Razan hose

also though, that tonic washable should do you fine untill you're ready for a nice hose.
this is what i was thinking, since ur hose will do fine for now, load up on the other things, bowl, coal,mu'assal. Depending on which vendor you order from, you can find promocodes either in the Vendor area of the forum...or in their sig when they post.

how much money do you have to play with, here? the things that will bring you the most drastic results would be:
1. new hose. something like a nammor, razan, or km hose would be good. you can find them about $20
2. new bowl. if you pack it correctly, you can get amazing results out of an egyptian...but it will take some practice. about $5
3. phunnel. tangiers smalls are good, but use A LOT of tobacco. $15
4. natural coals. something like john's or coco naras. about $14/box (they should last you a decent while)
5. to go with the coals, you should get a coil burner if you already don't have a coil burning or gas stove. even with a gas stove, a coil burner will make lighting times quicker. $15 at walgreens.

total investment you're looking at: is about 70 bucks...not including shipping or any tobacco you'd be wanting to try.

as others said: al fakher is good (i'm smoking some right now) and so is nakhla, amongst others

edit: if you're looking for something cost effective, you could get a fancy hose (or a few). i use them regularly. always when i go to lounges (i keep one in my car at all times for this). i'm also using one at my house…right now. those should set you back like 5ish bucks. the best place to buy egyptian bowls is locally, imo. most of the ones i've purchased online seem to have VERY narrow holes. if you have a bin or wide selection to choose from, go with the one with the largest holes at the bottom, as this will get you more airflow. also, depending on where you live, tobacco (like AF and nakhla) should be cheaper than online.

Over here, the tobacco is super expensive. I ended up paying less online even with shipping. So is it not good to smoke out of one hose all the time? Thanks for the prices and stuff by the way, this should be perfect. Lower than what I was thinking actually.

You're not limited to razan hoses. There are quite a few comparable hoses available. I have a few nammor hoses and have enjoyed them. I would suggest a washable or atleast rust proof hose.

The non-washable hoses have a metal coil inside that will rust over time whether you washed it or not.

The review section when will be your friend as you get started.
How can you tell if the inside is rusting?
Also is there any way to get the rust off? Cause Ive noticed that the part that goes on top of the base (not sure what it's called) is rusting pretty bad on the inside. Is there anyway to prevent this? I clean after every use but I can only dry it as much as my smoke filled lungs can blow lol.

by leaked, he means the hose wasnt air tight. chances are the glue didnt seal all the way around where the hose meets the handle or the mouthpiece, etc.

you can tell the inside is rusting on a hose usually buy getting chunks of black stuff on your tongue and in your mouth when you take a pull.

If you're talking about the pipe itself rusting this is no good. If its a quality pipe, its possible to clean the rust off if you can reach it. but if not, breathing in rust is very bad for you. So, if the Stem (the part that goes into the base) is rusting, this is a pretty sure sign that it's time for a new pipe.

That must suck pretty hard. Getting black stuff in your mouth.

/: that's shitty. My newest one is already starting to accumulate rust and it's only a couple weeks old. Do the better, name brand pipes rust like that?

First off, welcome to the Hookah Forum!

Secondly, here are the mentioned discount codes: http://www.hookahfor...line-customers/

Okay, thirdly, my recommendations:

1. The hookah. If you like your hookah, no need for a new one. I'm talking about the other one, not the pumpkin. But yeah, don't worry about replacing the hookah right now if you don't want to. Just upgrade your hookah to make it better. However. If you do wish to upgrade, I personally recommend Khalil Mamoon, Farida, and Mya Saray (small ones smoke just as well as the big ones and are much better price). I would say grab a Syrian, but they're hard to find again I believe. If you do come across one, though, Al Nawras or Nour is the brand to get. Otherwise, focus on the other brands. These are the ones that are built the best and will treat you well for years to come.

Some good hookahs:

http://www.hookah-shisha.com/c-16-small-mya-hookahs-mini-hookahs.html

2. Your bowl. Legit Tangiers Small Phunnel is the best bowl on the market right now, IMO. Hookah-Shisha.com does not carry these, as you already know. You'll need to go to another place for one, such as HookahCompany.com (which H-S now owns, and if HC gets them back in stock, which may not happen now since H-S bought them), UltimateHookah.com (also out of stock right now), or 5StarHookah.com (in stock, but overpriced IMO). So, if you want one now, 5Star is the place to get it. Either way, don't settle for the Chinese ripoff one. Also, the best standard bowl is the Egyptian clay bowl. Grab one of those in the meantime if you don't purchase a Tangiers Small right now.

Tang Small: http://5starhookah.com/Tangiers-Small-Funnel-Phunnel-Hookah-Bowl-TSP102.htm

Egyptian clay: http://5starhookah.com/Egyptian-Clay-Bowl-5960.htm

3. Shisha. I recommend Tangiers the most. Lucid is the line to start out on, and move up to Noir if you wish. I have smoked plenty of both and prefer Lucid because it does not have the tobacco undertones in it like Noir does. Also no worries with acclimation, which I sometimes get when the seasons are changing and weather is not stable. The buzz is greater but does not bother me. It should be said though I don't smoke for buzz, but for flavor. Lucid offers more in the flavor department, in my opinion. Others feel the same about Noir. Try both eventually and decide for yourself. :) I also like Nakhla and Al Fakher, and smoke them time to time, but I always find myself coming back to Tangiers.

Tangiers: http://ultimatehookah.com/Tangiers-Shisha-Tobacco_c18.htm

Nakhla: http://ultimatehookah.com/Nakhla-250g-NAK250.htm

Al Fakher: http://ultimatehookah.com/Al-Fakher-Shisha-Tobacco_c14.htm

4. Da hose. So far, Razan is a winner in my book. I got one of Mahir's (the dude who owns and operates NazarHookah, he's on the forum, good dude) "Abu Mahir" Razan during his Black Friday sale and can't put the damn thing down. I own the Razan, a Nammor, a KM Beast, and a Mya Freeze hose and everytime I set up to smoke, I HAVE to choose the Razan. It's easily become my favorite hose. HOWEVER. That may change when I get my Elmas hose from Turkey. :P Anyway, good hoses are Razan, Nammor, Khalil Mamoon (leather and washable), Fancy Hose, Temsah leather, and more. Plenty of hoses to choose from, that's for sure. Everyone has a favorite. I'd say choose one of the highly recommended ones on here that appeals to you the most and go with it, see what you think.

Razan: http://www.nazarhookah.com/accessories/hoses?zenid=n0n38dugpjipj9dcftu787ptg6

Nammor: http://www.hookah-shisha.com/p-1574-nammor-hookah-hoses.html

Khalil Mamoon: http://www.hookahcompany.com/hookah_hoses_15_ctg.htm

I think I covered everything I wanted to... Just check around the forum and see what everyone else is talking about. Check out the tutorials. If you decide to jump onto the Tangiers bandwagon, check out my guide (link in my sig). This is an awesome forum full of knowledge. The people here will have you smoking the best you possibly can, that's for sure. :)

EDIT: Added links to what I was talking about. Please note that I did not shop around to find the lowest price. :P

if your hookah is rusting, i would say that it's time for a new one. The brands that (most) everyone here trusts are KM, Nour/Nawras, MYA, and i've seen some people say some good things about Faridas (and I think they look sexy as hell). Those pipes shouldn't rust out on you like the some of the more cheaply made generics. The thing with the strong brand loyalties on the forum is that there are some good generics out there, but being in an online market, we can't feel the weight, gauge of material, or view the rigidity of the construction and thouroghness of the welds, as well as diameter of the ports - all signs of a quality pipe.

also, those prices could be off a bit, they were just approximations from the last time i ordered (it's been a while).

also, does anyone have any experience using mahir/nazar's coals? that's important; not all coconut coals are created equally.

All of the above. I have a slightly different taste in pipes, and my Mya Mozza has served me dutifully. It's a great pipe, plenty tall, 2-hose, well built, and extremely easy to clean. It can be broken down completely. Only downside, the tray is too small so you would want to get a bigger one.

As far as bowls, Tangiers' smalls are excellent, but so are crown glass bowls. I prefer the crown because it's more simplistic looking, and I have a thing for clear parts.

I can't speak for the guys that have had trouble with their Nammor hoses, but I have four and none of them leak. I also have one of mahir's hoses, and it's great as well, again, not leaking.

As far as parts go, a new bowl and new hoses will make a huge difference, and if you like the actual pipe, great. But, if it's not what you want or you feel it's lacking, get another. No sense upgrading a pipe you're not a fan of to begin with.

Here's the stuff I referenced:

The natural coals I agree with, so no sense in adding more.

Drat most people have said things that I would have said my self lol!

However what some do is that you could always purchase tangiers through another individual who may have access to the lounge (like a forum member) and either send them the money before they go to the lounge or reeimburse them afterwards via various methods. But if your not willing to pitch in the cash to some one you may not know so well, you can order from online retailers like HC, H-S or Fumari even or you have to work with what you got in the vicinity.

It just takes time and money to know what you may like or dislike in a flavor/brand and how to get your set up to smoke the way you like it. :)

As for coals, I highly suggest natural coconut coals like coco mazayas or coals from brands like fumari or golden canary, however coconut coals need a coil burner to be lit. But the plus side is that coconut coals do not spark up and leave coal powder every where, nor do they leave a nasty after taste like quicklights to. Edited by Satou

I just wanna thank you guys for replying and stuff. I'm glad there are so many helpful people on this forum willing to help out a newbie. I've read all of yalls replys and I can't wait to try the shit that have been requesting. I also followed some the guides on here about heat management, bowl packing, and foil techniques and stuff and it made my smoking 10 xs better. I was getting way more flavor and smoke and I didn't have to take the foil off and peel the crispys off every 15 minutes.

Haha coal gnomes?

Yea it was shitty. I knew that couldn't be right. It was cause I was putting the coals to the middle I think.
Now I don't poke any holes in the middle and I keep the coals towards the edges. Boom. No more crispies.
