paspatout
I've only just come across this term, but it describes exactly what I experience, i.e. a burning sensation on the tongue, pretty much every time I smoke. This is the case whether at smoking at home or at my local Lebanese cafe. It can last from hours to a few days after a smoke. In most cases I smoke Al Fakher Apple, but I've tried other brands and other flavours and have experienced the same. Suggests to me that I'm prone to it where others aren't. Does anyone have any suggestions. I gather drinking beer or fizzy soft drinks can make it worse, which I'll cut out in future, but was wondering if there's anything I can put in the water that would help or any other measures. Thanks

Thanks [/quote] I've never experienced this from hookah. But cigars, and pipes both give it to me after only one or two puffs. IDK anything that helps, other than giving it time to 'heal'

â€On
Everything previously mentioned. Like you said, you may be more prone to this, which leads me to believe stuie is onto something with allergies. Do you get the same effects from smoking herbal stuff? Cigars? Give us some more information to help us narrow it down for you.
paspatout
Thanks for the suggestions. With regard to allergies, that had occured to me, but I guess it may be difficult to isolate an allergy to a particular constituent. I don't smoke anything now other than an occasional hookah pipe and so can't comment on other smoking products. I was a heavy cigarette smoker and occasional cigar smoker until about 5 years ago and never had oral problems resulting from that at the time. In relation to various posts I've found about mouth bite in pipe smokers, there are a few suggestions that alkalinity of the smoke may be one cause, in which case I may get hold of some litmus paper and test the ph of the water in the bowl after a smoking session. If it is very alkaline, perhaps I could try adding something acidic such as lemon juice to the water to balance the ph of the smoke.
