Thicker smoke

Recommended Posts

Im currently using 3 kings charcoal with nahkla shisha. Sometimes i get thick smoke and sometimes I dont, but it seems if I use the other charcoals called "charchoal without problem" the smoke is thick but it kills my throat! Any suggestions on getting a thicker better tasting smoke?

You could use ice water to help lessen the bite... It might be that your 'charchoal' that's producing extra smoke and bite... but perhaps your other coals just get hotter. That's just a guess - but it does seem that it might be adding to the harshness. As for flavor - read around the board for anything about 'acclimation'. That should help give you some extra flavor.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but adding an ice chamber at the top is an option, if the threads fit. You can order them separately at Hookah-Shishah.com (somebody give my LP of hookah advice a whack, it's repeating again). I've got an Ice Torrent, and with the chamber + ice water, you get some super-thick smoke.

Try making lots of little holes using a needle for your holes. Also what might give you harshness are the ash's of the coal that get sucked in the head while smoking. I use 3kings with nakhla tobacco all the time.

heat=smoke.I've gotten thick smoke out of EVERY brand I've tried. Its all in the heat. If there isn't enough heat, then well..no smoke..too much heat, plenty of smoke as your tobacco actually goes up...Experiment until you find what works for you. Things like how you pack your bowl can even effect how the heat cooks the tobacco..once you get a set method for packing and set up, work on your heat. Remember, different brands require different amounts of heat as well...what works great for Nakhla will nuke Tangiers or Al Amir. Practice practice practice. :-)
