navy876
Does smoking Hookah affect you if your trying to lose weight and get big? "muscle wise" I want to change my life style and live a healthy one. Meaning make the gym a part of my life. I will be changing my diet by a total of 360 degrees. Nooo bad foods for me! PLEASE NOTE I ONLY SMOKE ONCE A WEEK! EVERY FRIDAY. What does the Hookah Forum community think? If you know of anybody that has had passed experiences and has sufficient evidence please post it on this thread! Or if you for yourself have done some tests post it as-well. -Navy876
Chreees
When I do work out (I go through periods where I work out, then through periods where I'm too busy to), I don't notice smoking hookah (I smoke on average three times a week) affecting my health or workouts. I would bet majority of the forum will tell you the same. Now as for smoking hookah making you lazy and not wanting to workout, or choosing to smoke in place of working out, now that's an entirely different story... Blakefox
I would say that hookah should not effect your workout. Hookah generally doesn't cause any type of coughing or wheezing or the type of things that would slow you down. ( if smoked properly). I mean if course if someone doesnt know what theyre doing, puts 3 quicklights on a mod bowl on a pumpkin and smokes till theyre sick, yeah, then i may do some bad. I actually prefer a nice tangiers cane mint before a workout, cleans my sinus's, nice and refreshing
Blakefox
Actually, I guess it may speed your metabolism and actually have some of the benefits without a serious negative. So it may help? Idk, I couldn't trade one for another. Never had seemed to harm me when I did sports.
grock
My friend, who works out frequently, told me its hard to gain muscle mass if you smoke cigarettes because it speeds up your digestive system, resulting in difficulty with packing on weight. I feel that this would be applicable for hookah too. HOWEVER, he told me this with application to someone who smokes frequently throughout the day. Would this affect someone who smokes only ONE day a week? I feel it would have minimal impact. Take this however you want, I am definitely not a a doctor. This is just information given by a health nut and previous cigarette smoker.
joytron
If you want to live a healthier life I would think about quitting smoking altogether. I do not think you will find anyone here that thinks smoking is not unhealthy. As far as fitness, I do not know anything about muscle mass, but I have not seen an impact on my cardio. kajon
I have been working out 4x a week for the past few months, and smoking hasn't hindered any sort of performace in the gym( I usually only smoke 1x or 2x a week). As Joy stated, if you are trying to be healthy smoking probably isn't the way to go. Personally though, smoking once or twice a week doesnt seem to slow me down at all. S3cretz
WOAH! there a word to the wise never ever smoke before working out. I once smoked before my Wednesday cardio session two years back and my left lung collapsed because of the high humidity in my lungs or something pressing through a membrane somewhere. Im not saying you cant smoke and work out im just saying give it a few hours before and after a workout before you smoke. Working out Is actually one of the best things a smoker can do for themselves because it cleans your lungs so by all means do it. Just be cautious about whe
Kmon
Nicotine does help stimulate your digestion/metabolism and curbs apatite. I think a preworkout smoke isn't a good idea, mostly you need stuff that stays in your system, casein protein with blended cottage cheese and green apples will take a long time to digest and is a great postwork pre sleep drink to keep your metabolism going throughout the night so the fire doesn't go out and your burning cals and feeding the beast throughout the night. I would imagine a smoke session after dinner before presleep shake would be good for you.
squidget
I work out regularly (3-5 times a week) and I smoke on average every other day. Smoking has not hindered my ability working out. I will note that as mentioned above, do not smoke before workout (especially cardio). This is the path to pain and suffering. If anything, I use hookah as a motiviator to get my butt to the gym. "didn't go to the gym today? no hookah for you" On the topic of muscle mass, can't offer much insight there. I have gain muscle mass in my workouts but I'm not trying to bulk up. Arcane
I used to smoke hookah right up until I left for the gym and had a cigarette driving to the gym...it's not entirely horrible and definitely possible. It really just depends on if you can handle it or not. You definitely won't get the same output, but should still be able to get some work done. Period. I will bitch slap anyone who says otherwise. This was last year and I smoked at least 4 times a week.
DrSmokes
Eating grains, dairy, and processed foods will do you more harm than hookah. I've noticed no difference in my cardio and I've been doing Insanity and also doing some resistant band workouts (testing a new system that will be coming out in a few months). But...I've been eating really well. I make sure to include a lot of dark leafy greens, raw fruits and veggies, and some (not much) meat in my diet. Prior to me eating well, I noticed my workouts were not as good as they are now. I take no protein powders and have started noticing bigger muscle gains since starting my new lifestyle change. I can comment more on this when I get to phase 2 of insanity as that's the REAL a** kicker.
