weslypipes
I ran out of coals today and the closest shop was already closed to i was going to try and make some out of wood but I figured all the work wouldnt be worth the terrible taste. But I already widdled a log about 3 inches inches in diameter and about a foot and a half long. I wanna make something hookah related but cant think of anything. mustang67n
depends on the kind of wood. some wood works GREAT. others.. not so much
Chreees
I remembered this topic being covered before, so did a little search. This is what I found: http://www.hookahforum.com/topic/34371-coals-from-wood/page__hl__coals__fromsearch__1 I swear there are more topics on it, but that's all that popped up in my eight pages of search results. Skoozle
looks like you already gave up on making coal and just want to make the stick into something hookah related? Drilling the center out would be difficult, so hose tips or a stem are out; unless you are feeling ambitious. The only thing I can think of at the moment would be tongs. good luck, let us know if you come up with anything.

Chreees
Oh! If you're asking what you could make out of it other than hookah coals, just to make something because you're bored, I highly suggest a vampire stake. Ya know, cause with how many shows and movies they come out with about vampires, they're gonna eventually exist. EDIT: Lol Blake, that dude is banned... not sure I'd try out his method. But hey, it might actually work and then I would feel like he was actually useful for something during his short time with us.
Blakefox
Ahh sorry about that, haven't visited the how-to section in awhile and that was the most recent xP it sounded like it could be helpful though. There was a lemon tree that fell down in a neighbors backyard a couple years back after a hurricane. Chopped it up and threw it in a bonfire I had goin. Worked really well actually. Chreees
Nah man, nothing to be sorry about. It's a good topic, and glad you posted that thread. Hell, his method may be super legit. I just wonder why it didn't pop up in my search for "coals" in titles only.
mushrat
you can go to a supermarket and buy "lump" charcoal. Its in the same section with the briquettes. It is simply what we think of as Bulk Natural coal. http://www.nakedwhiz.com/lumpindexpage.htm?bag
Captain Ziad
Perhaps I misremember, but it seems to me that in Bahrain, Kuwait and so on they use small branch bits made into charcoal, as well as the disks. The shapes I remember were pretty natural; about as thick as a pencil. I don't know what sort of wood they used, which might be critical. Obviously there is not a lot of wood in that region, so it makes sense that they would use the bits that were too small to use in a cooking fire.
