moogly
hey peeps, I'm a hookah noob been smokin' for about a year now. have a ? i recently bought an ice bucket attachment and a bowl with a little metal cover on it. 1- i like the ice bucket but need to find a stem piece add on so i can position it differently( the tray on it is small i'd rather stick with the tray my MYA came with) i went to the mya sight but they don't sell just the piece i need they sell the whole thing. 2- I got one of the ceramic bowl/ wind cover combos but it has a strong metallic taste, does that go away after repeated burnings or should i stick with my traditional tin wind cover? Thanks in advance ps I like romman, starbuzz, social smoke(kinda just tryin' out) use several different quick lights(did the coals but the quick lights are easier) and use a tin cover most of the time or foil. littlec
I'm not sure about the construction on those but I would suggest getting a mystique hose tip or adding ice in the base for the best "cooled" smoke results.
ok.. as far as the ice bucket, I'm not quite sure what you're asking there. as far as the bowl/cover combo, I'm not a fan of these at all. First of all those ceramic bowls (commonly referred to as "mod" bowls) are cheap and do not retain heat very well. Secondly, the metal screens they come with to replace the foil tend to block TOO much heat and you end up having to use more coal than usually necessary. Thirdly, the attached wind cover on those bowls are very small, and heat up very quickly making it almost impossible to remove the cover if its necessary to cool the bowl down. As far as the metallic taste you are getting, i've never heard of anyone having issues with a screen/cover combination giving them a flavor like this. try not using that bowl, and using a regular bowl, and do you still get that flavor? If you do, then it's possibly the hose and/or pipe itself. Mya pipes usually do not rust, however. the hoses that come with Mya's have metal coils inside of them. If these hoses are ever washed out with water, they will begin to rust. They also simply rust over time naturally. This metallic taste could be this.
moogly
eh, I'm thinking the awful taste was from the bowl cover...like something put off by the new chrome/tin. and on the icebucket... the way it is set up to go on top of the hookah right underneath the bowl. I want to set it up right above the main chamber and then the stem, tray and bowl. so i need a 1 - 2 inch stem to put between the bucket and the chamber piece. and i no longer put ice in the base. just fresh water. I now put my hookah in a big pail and fill that with ice... so it's gettin' plenty of ice down-the little ice bucket and the big pail. â€On
If i'm not mistaken, I believe this is the type of ice chamber you are talking about: And what you want to do is put that right above the heart of the hookah (where the hose port and purge valve are located) instead of right at the top. I have seen these before, and yes, the middle spire does spin out, but you are going to have a hell of a time finding a piece that's threaded on both ends, with the right size threads, to make it fit. My advice, abandon that idea, it's not worth the hassle. If you really want a chiller hookah, get a chiller hookah. There are a bunch of different models out there. In my experience, chiller hookahs do nothing, and having used this type of thread on chiller for modern hookahs, they work even worse.
