Well the truth must come out. Im sure you've heard many people say "They hate reading". I am one of those people. I can truthfully say I cant read anything. Even if it interests me! Its almost embarrassing. Its not because Im not a good reader, or I dont comprehend what I read. But having ADHD I'd much rather be doing something that involves movement. With that being said, Im not trying to use my ADHD as an excuse. I know brilliant people with ADHD, who are avid readers. In school I was always the student who was loquacious. Not a bright light, but sure as hell was good in History because I enjoyed it. I enjoyed History so much, that In High-school I took College History my Junior year. If anybody that is an avid reader on here could help recommend books like Autobiographies or Biography's I'd highly appreciate it. For me, Books on a persons life would be more suitable.
Aside from the Autobiographies or Biography's you guys recommend, Please note your personal Favorite Books that you have read. That includes authors, series, ect.

-Many Thanks

I read quite a bit, but mostly stuff others would consider boring. The last book I bought was not intended to be read, but intended more as a reference. Some parts can be read, though.
"Those gallant men of the Twenty-Eighth Alabama Confederate Infantry Regiment."
My great-great grandfather, Elijah, was in Company B of that regiment. He joined in Feb. 1862 and died of a fever in July 1862.

I read, quite often. Nothing like sitting down with a bowl of tangiers, reading, and smoking for a few hours.

Recently I've been reading the Stieg Larsson "the girl with the dragon tattoo" books
Very good read.
Also I'm in the middle of Anne McCafferey's "dragonflight"
And while I'm on the pooper, I read George Carlin's "when will jesus bring the porkchops"

lol

I second Stieg Larsson's book series The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, I absolutely adore that series and have read it many times. I read a ton of books and have a lot that I have yet to read but I myself am not too big of a fan of autobiographies or biographies, so I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to help you there. Although I just now remembered that one book that is on my list to read is a an autobiography called "Open" by Andre Agassi. I've heard really good things about it so that might be something you could check out.
Gramps is your Grandfather name mentioned in that book? Or is the book just based on the War, not "actual people"
Mustang67n is "The girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Just like the Movie?
Teganv. Why did you put "Open" on your list to read, if you dont like autobiographies or biographies?

It's actual people, real history, and his name is mentioned in the muster roll. Very little info I didn't already know, but it's nice having the regimental history in one place. I also have a copy of the application his widow filed for benefits.

We've been here for a long time. I can trace my ancestry with certainty back to the mid-1600s. My great-great-great-great grandfather, Hampton Wade, fought in the Revolutionary War as part of the Virginia militia. The Indian (native American Cherokee) side of my family has been here even longer. ;)

Navy, yes. The Movies are based off of the Stieg Larsson novels.

If anyone does decide to read these books, I highly recommend watching the orginial (swedish i think) movies after you read them. They are excellent. I haven't seen the US version of "the girl with the dragon tattoo" yet, but I've heard it's good as well, but the original version sticks to the book more accurately (plus the actress is WAY hotter)

I have One semi-historical book that I LOVED. However, I'm a huge billiards player. I love playing and I love learning about the greats of America.

R.A. Dyer's "Hustler Days"

It was a GREAT read. Not heavily written, easy to get through, but the storytelling is great. The stories aren't entirely true, but I don't think anyone really knows the true story behind some of the hustlers that have trekked this country.

I recommend this, for you, and anyone else with a slight interest in the cultural expedition that was North America's pool hustlers.

I have it on my list of books to read because it was suggested to me by a friend, simple as that. Oh and also to add to the Girl with the dragon tattoo conversation... The swedish movies are pretty much based on the books with some difference because of money. The original swedish films had a much smaller budget then the American film, which I have watch but did not think it was as good as the originals. The actress in the original is like mustang said, way more attractive and I felt like she captured the character a lot better then the american actress did. I would read the books before you watch any of the movies though.

I very recently reread Star Maker by Olaf Stapledon, a man who was truly ahead of his time when it came to science fiction. All of his books are great; I read them years ago and it was fun getting back into them.

Oh and I thought the Girl with the dragon tattoo series was pretty poor, but perfectly suitable for something like a long flight.

Almost forgot Tom Wolfe's The Right Stuff is a must read if you are into recent history.

My favorite thriller would have to be Phantoms by Dean Koontz...followed by a long list of his other books :P Phantoms is about a creature that takes out a whole town and they eventually tie it into history of the multiple groups and even civilizations that disappear, and even whole groups of animals that just disappeared. I forget how soon you figure out what the creature is and does so I won't spoil it, but it definitely kept me reading the book.

I know you said biographies and such but I haven't really read any so I'll just list a few of the ones that caught my interest. I hated reading back in the day until I read the above book and then the long list of Dean Koontz books after that. But another good one I came across is another sci-fi thriller by Tess Gerritsen called Gravity. It's about a microbe that infects some astronauts and they bring it back home to earth. It mutated in space from what I remember due to the lack of gravity. Definitely another one that kept me reading.

Ones that are more health oriented (since I'm in the health field, I need to read as much on that as possible), I've found that these were good, interesting books:
Pottengers Cats (is about a doc who was trying to find a cure for Tuberculosis but stumbled across raw foods that helped his cats heal from the adrenal surgeries he was doing and ended up doing raw vs cooked food studies)
Nutrition and Physical Degeneration (similar to that of the above book, but a dentist went out seeking the answers as to why generation after generation our teeth were getting worse and worse and why our bone structures of the jaws kept getting smaller and smaller and came to a similar conclusion about raw foods as Pottenger did)
Green For Life (about why we need to incorporate more raw greens into our diets and this book suggests the use of blending your greens into tasty green smoothies)

I'm also reading some vaccine books (pro and anti) and can't really recommend either yet. Depending on where you stand, you would likely just put the books down after the first chapter bc they are pretty extreme and I've yet to check any of the sources on their claims yet. I have my own opinions on the matter but that doesn't quite matter right now :P

I hope some of these listed will peak your interest.
