headhunter
if its allergy's their isnt really much you can do, i my self suffer from almost unbearable allergy's during spring and summer. Though i havent heard of a burning in your chest as a tell, though it could be different for you. But to me it sounds like a cold, try taking vitamin C, and Echinacea i find those two combined really takes down a cold fast. Hope i could help. ~headhunter

I'm a chiropractor and we deal with more than just "cracking backs" (seems to be the general belief sadly). We get similar diagnosing classes as MD's, we just diverge when it comes to philosophy and how to treat a patient. If it is allergies, cut out wheat and dairy from your diet for 1-2 weeks and see how your symptoms are. But I would feel safer if you went to someone to get a diagnoses so you know what you are dealing with.

gramps
I've had about the same thing for the last three days. It started as a ton of drainage from my sinuses and then chest congestion with an unproductive cough. I've been treating it with OTC stuff. I think I'll live, but I may be off from work one more day. Going to the doctor for me would mean a $30 co-pay and he would tell me to do the same things I've been doing. A waste of time and money on my part. I know enough to be able to tell when I need a doctor.

gramps
I see it this way. I've had college courses in biology, physiology, genetics, microbiology, etc., and I've lived in this body for 59 years now. I usually have the correct diagnosis before seeing the doctor, and if I have questions, I call my cousin who is a doctor. I need a doctor for lab tests (I don't own a lab), for X-rays (I don't own an X-ray machine), and for writing prescriptions. Most common illnesses don't need a prescription medicine. In fact, we're a nation that is over-medicated. Whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger.

Too much medication, too much bad food, not enough good food and not enough supplementation.
navy876
America is overall spoiled. But thats another topic. I wish Doctors would inject penicillin. That stuff always did great for my colds, coughs, sore throat, ect.
gramps
That's the whole problem!! Doctors have been giving antibiotics (usually at the patient's insistence) for virus-caused illnesses, and antibiotics don't kill viruses. That's why bacteria have become resistant. Getting an antiboitic while you have a cold or flu may prevent a bacterial infection from starting (e.g. bacterial pneumonia), but it won't help against the cold or flu.
