About 6 months ago, I read on this forum about clearing the smoke with that ball bearing valve thing on the side of the hookah. So, I've been using it and very happy with it. Can totally clear the stale smoke out and hit fresh goodness.Unfortunately, my valve started sticking.I started by cleaning it out, and loosening the cover. But it still gets gummed up after every use.So, I get to thinking - if there's that much gunk in there after one session, what must it be doing to my lungs!?It's been hard to smoke guilt-free ever since.I've cut down a lot in the past few weeks.

think about it this way .... people that are like 70 years old smoke hookah on the streets of morocco ... they seem to live fine with it and have been doing it all their life. the ball getting sticky after every session is because your not cleaning it properly ... remember your smoking sweetened tobacco... when it evaporates it has to go somewhere so it clings to various places of your hookah ... if you take your hookah apart and coat the ball with some vegetable oil it wont stick as much anymore just smoke and enjoy !

the human body is alot more complex than some bullshit ball bearing.... if you eat healthy and exercise, a LITTLE hookah wont kill you... however if you eat garbage and just sit on the couch and smoke all day then you should be smart enough to realize that you are screwing your body over.

Actually thats the same smoke you're inhaling, but anyway, i solved the problem by using an Airsoft BB, works perfect and a little plastic ball sure isnt gonna rust up or get much on it.
Remember also that the smoke we inhale is filtered through the water whereas the smoke passing by the ball bearing is not.
The smoke that is being cleared from the chamber via the BB is the same smoke that is being filtered through the water.....

Yeah, stuff like that is depressing. But keep in mind that while you're smoking, that chamber is constantly filled with smoke. Your lungs, on the other hand, are only momentarily filled with smoke.

Ok im going out on a limb here but isnt whats gunking up the ball bearing glycerine? And isnt the reason its doing that is because of its reaction with the air?and dont we eat small amounts of glycerine and our bodies process that just fine?am i going to die?

I think it is fairly standard knowledge that smoking a hookah is still bad for you. You need only exhale the smoke through a tissue to see that is the case. But that said I am a scientist and their are 100s of suspected carcinogens in our daily lives. For example cloroform which was a standard item for any surgery for decades is now known to be a carcinogen.

When I clean my purge valve I unscrew it from the stem, take it apart and put all the pieces in a little pill bottle full of alcohol. I wash the rest of my hookah normally. I use a hard bristle pipe cleaner on the chamber pieces of the valve and I put the ball in a cotton cloth and kinda squeeze around on it forcing the ball to slip around so the surface is scrubbed by the cotton. I do this once every two weeks since the first experience with it sticking and it has never happened since. My guess is that you are not getting all the residue off and it does not take but another smoke for just enough more residue to attach and cause sticking. That or you are smoking some nappy ass shazit!
