I smoked with a friend the other day and he put my QT into a cooking pot and filled around the hookah with ice, water, and salt...the smoke was sooo cold that the meatal rings on the handle of my hose were cold to the touch...anazing smoke.

welll if you have a glass base i wouldnt reccoment this. It could get too cold and shatter your base. Especially since your adding salt. salt brings the temp of ice below 32*. I think it makes it about 24*, which is deff cold enough to crack/shatter glass.

The cold itself is not a problem, freezing beer mugs and glasses for example :) My favorite!!!

I actually prefer my smoke to be on the warmer side. The flavors are more discernable. Then again, I don't like anything cold. Not even beer drink it the real way boys, just a small bit below room temperature

i gotta have mine cold. I stick the base filled with water, and the stem in the fridge 5 minutes before i smoke. Get the bowl and the coal ready then pull out the stem and base, and damn the first 10 minutes or so is all nice cold and smooth smoke.

If it's too cold, it dulls the taste -- for smoke, beer and just about anything else. If you're drinking Natty light or Miller or some junk it might as well be cold, but it's a waste to drink a quality brew too far below room temperature.
