â€On
It's only a few days (or a week and a few days, if you're going to the second weekend) until this years Coachella, and I'm just wondering who else is going? For those of you who are unsure http://www.coachella.com is north americas best music festival. This year will be my 8th year flying down for it, and I'm doing both weekends this year. In between the weekends I'll probably just be kicking it at the Caliente Tropics. It's a cheap hotel, and it's awesome. Lets rep HF there!
joytron
Yeah my brother is going on 4/20, looks to be a solid line-up. Who are you must excited to see?
â€On
Yeah, it's a pretty good lineup this year. I'm really excited to tick Refused, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and At The Drive-In off of my "bands I thought I would never get to see live" bucket list, but I'm also excited for M83, Amon Tobin, The Rapture (even though i'm not a big fan of the newest album and it sucks that Matty left the band, they are for sure still going to be awesome), Madeon, The Horrors, Cat Power, The Black Angels, Band Of Skulls, Miike Snow, Florence & The Machine, The Hives, Fitz And The Tantrums, Dj Shadow, etc. Lots of really great stuff this year! Dereksd
Refused and ATDI but nothing is worth going to see and having to put up with the conditions and people at Coachella
â€On
Sure there are lots of hipsters and dbags and such, but when there is 100 thousand+ people there will always be a bunch of shitty people. But, there will also be a ton of awesome people. Every year the conditions at coachella get better, and they do strive to make it nice and improve things, so I don't have much in the way of complaints. The first year I went, there was garbage everywhere, not enough showers, toilets were not emptied frequently enough, too small of camping spaces, etc etc. Last year, every single one of those was either completely fixed or improved greatly. It's a lot of work to keep that many people happy and to keep conditions good. Being that in the past I have seen more bands than I can count that: -are amazing -broke up prior to or after coachella, making the show more important -rarely ever play shows -most people have not had the chance to see and that i would not have gotten the chance to see had I not gone and so on, it makes it worth it for me. In one weekend I can see more awesome bands than I might get to see all year locally. People who live in Cali have it easy, you get all the awesome bands coming through touring. We barely get anything, and often have to make a trip to Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal just to see some of the smaller bands that we like. But, to each their own! I'm still not sure about what I'm going to do during the week, so it's a possibility. I'll probably have my laptop down there with me, so I'll message you if I end up doing that! Rani
I actually used to live down there and went every year. There will be problems, but there always are when you get a bunch of people together partying. Just don't be the one starting any. This year promises to be really nice and warm, so a lot of people will actually be camping out I understand. What's happened in the past is a couple people get a cheap hotel room just for the shower and the campers swing by for the amenities. Works out to about $60 per person for a week if you do the camping thing by the time everybody shares the room cost. Everybody have fun and take pictures for the rest of us who can't make it. Coleman
Ty the only issue is if a band is playing coachella thy can't play a show anywhere near coachella valley for the few months leading up to it. It's a hype technique that the event uses but it fucks San Diego and Los Angeles out of a lot of good concerts from great bands yes they aren't even allowed to play in Los Angeles for wht I think is the two to three months leading up to the concert. They also hold a festival like this in San Francisco usually consisting of a lot of the bands that play Coachella
