Recommended Posts

I still can't decide on what I want to buy and been looking around and found a blacked out KM called the Black Shareef. Stands 33" tall and looks pretty cool in my opinion, but i like shit blacked out :P

It's just an "electroplated" version of the KM Hafa, pretty much (this one seems slightly different in terms of the shape). I'm unsure of the quality of the black stuff they used to do it (like how long it will last or if it is on there really good, etc.). IMO, it's a bit pricey, but I guess that's what KMs are going for nowadays. *sigh* But don't listen too much to me... I'm not really all that impressed with anything KM has been putting out the last couple years. If you like it, go for it!

May I suggest an alternative... Not sure if you've seen this, but something to consider: http://www.hookahfor..._40#entry544595

IMO, these are the best hookahs to get online right now. Syrian brass like this comes and goes. Once they're gone, they're gone. I would take one of these over a KM anyday. Plus you'll have something a little bit more on the rare side. ;) Here's my review for one of the three models if you need more convincing, haha (all three models should be the same quality wise): http://www.hookahfor...364#entry544364

In conclusion, get what you like. The KM will be good I'm sure if you decide to get it. Just wanted to throw out another option for ya. Also be sure to look at Farida and Elmas as options. Hope this post was somewhat helpful.

I saw that post earlier in another thread and thought about it...i don't smoke with people who know hookahs by names or type, so rarity isn't too important to me. As for Farida and Elmas, I'm super picky lol. I've been trying to decide (and been extremely busy) for like 6 months now..can't believe that much time has gone by. But yeah, I had the same thoughts about the black coating :( $150 for something that might scratch....hmmm. I've been out of the loop a while..something like 3-4 years and I remember when KMs were like $80..no more haha

Yeah, exactly. Supposedly KM or the importers raised the prices, but you know how that all goes... Either way, sucks for the customers, especially since (IMO) the build quality just isn't like it used to be, and the models they offer now just aren't as appealing (to me anyway). Such a shame.

I hear ya on being picky. I'm down to three pipes that I love, and it would be hard to let go of them. It sounds like you are pretty savvy at searching and finding what's out there, so I guess all I can really add is get the pipe that you like the most. Don't worry about everyone else's opinion or what we like best- get what YOU like best. Everyone's different and likes different things. So yeah man, if you like the black KM enough to post a thread about it out of the 6 or so months you've been searching, then it sounds like you really like it, and I think you should go for it. :)

EDIT: Oh, and I just remembered this guy... Maybe ask him how he likes his? http://www.hookahforum.com/topic/45400-my-new-km/page__pid__544706#entry544706

km kamanja wheat 28" , km kamanja double wheat 32", km beast 21" ( http://www.5starhookah.com/Brass_c132.htm?page=all )

Pretty positive it's not KM that does the electroplating.

when i read it he really doesn't say anything about talking down about KM electroplating them

he just said he doesnt know the quality of the electroplated hookahs so it may deteriorate

AND he says there more expensive these days and hes just not interested in the models they've been putting out

I agree about km enough w electro this and color green that and quad metal that wears off crap. Stick to classic styling like tri mashal og tri even the popular hollow hafa that has a brass core. Very few kms excite me these days other than a few. Years ago i thought damn near every one of their models was gorgeous. Which is y if km doesnt shape up the rest of my collection will b finished w either more elmas pipes or syrian/farida brass as they come and go.

Nope.

This. Thanks, Twitch, for explaining so I didn't have to.

Also, I agree with you 100%, John. KM's older stuff just appealed to me more. That's not to say their new stuff is junk, though, as mavs thought I was implying. Just to make myself clear...

hey if its what you like then go for it, I think it will take a lot of abuse before the black will come off. Its not like the quad metal models, where the black stuff is just a tarnish or something they add once its finished. That seems to be an average price for a new km that is not the plain (kafe?) style or pear.its very different from the traditional colors of a hookah. It will smoke great. Just gotta inspect the welds if/when you do get it. Edited by king_lunchb0x

A thought:

If you're really really keen on the "blacked out" stuff, why not pick out a truly well-built, maybe all-brass hookah, a vase and hose you love, and then have the stem electroplated or powder coated locally? Given the price of this blacked-out KM I don't think doing it custom would cost you any more, and you'd almost certainly end up with a better hookah, and a unique one to boot. Wow been a while since ive been on here...
Any ways I just bought a KM Dark Silver Shareef and i gotta say i love it. As for the plating its tough stuff. I mean i dont see myself scratching it unless i take my keys and really dig at it. The only issue i had was with the base, i got the red morrocan and when i got it there was little bits of paper in the paint like they wrapped and shipped it before the paint was dry. Other than that it smokes awesome like most do. It looks awesome too.

Yeah I thought about doing that too because I know from experience powder coating is virtually impossible to scratch/chip with normal bumps and scrapes kinda shit.
