Im A Little Tweaked Here Guys

Recommended Posts

hey guys, so as the title says im a little tweaked atm. For about two or three weeks i have had shortness of breath, now the cause could be any number of things. But my first thought was my usual brush with my usual sickness with the season change but the doc ruled that out. My second thought and the Docs was allergies and this could be it as when i went down south for a little i didnt notice it at all. The final thought is that its related to hookah now this one scares me the most, i know that it is safer but since iv had the "effects of smoking" thrown down my mouth since i was 5 im just a little freaked. So help a fellow hookah smoker out. And also iv been smoking for about 5-6 months for your guys to ponder over as well. Thanks in advance for any help.

I, too, don't really see where we can help you much. Even if we were doctors we would need to see you in person or a detailed list of your symptoms (don't worry about providing that, we aren't doctors lol). If your head feels like it's in a vice, and your nasal passages are blocked, there's a good chance it's allergies. Solution would be to take an antihistamine. If you've had shortness of breath for a few days, you probably don't have bronchitis. It's been going around and hits you like a stack of bricks. So, you may be able to rule that one out. If you aren't athletic, could be a mixture of no exercise and smoking. Could also be a heart problem, you might want to see a cardiologist. Or, it could just be the ill effects of smoking. Lay off smoking for a while, and try to stay out of smoky environments. A month was recommended above, and I'd set that at a minimum. I'd say 6-8 weeks before you start feeling any change.

You've been smoking for 5-6 months, but how often and how much each session? Does it worsen after each session? Has anything made it better or worse? Have you added or removed something from your diet recently? Added a medication or removed one recently? Are you over weight and have you started gaining more weight recently?

Continue consulting your doctor.
Don't smoke for a while.

Hope you feel better soon, buddy.

Yeah listen to this anonymous guy on the internet. As you can see, he does have Dr in his username.

But in all seriousness, be a man and tell your actual Doctor everything that you've been doing. Don't worry about how much "trouble" you may get into, you're health is more important. He will probably overreact to the sheesha smoking, but better safe than sorry.

Obviously, I'm guessing that you haven't told him about the smoking, but I may be mistaken about that.

In any event, don't come on a smoking message board and ask us what we think is the problem, we are all in denial about how unhealthy sheesha may be. I know you want to hear it has nothing to do with the sheesha smoking, but I think you should seriously explore all the possibilities with a Doctor instead of asking here.

Have you recently had an injury? I had one patient that had a shoulder injury and ever since then he had a tough time breathing when running. After I treated him, he was back to his old self (though he says better than his old self :P ). Maybe you "tweaked" something in your back and all you need is an adjustment. Though to be on the safe side, I'd get a chest xray to make sure you don't have a pathology.

Do you have a cough right now? Does it hurt if/when you cough? Any other symptoms you have noted since you started feeling this way?

Hey man, if you say so...

Whether you're a Doctor or not, he still shouldn't be asking anyone on here.

Just out of curiosity, does a majority of your practice consist of giving advice over message boards?

Shalowlow, thing is i asked here cause i wanted to be sure i wasnt being dumb, and you know what? fact is that where i ask and who i trust really shouldnt be an issue for you. And more so Dr. Smokes has proven through many smart and informed comments that i am inclined to believe that he is a doc, and if i remember right a natural medicine doc.

And to Dr no, havent been hurt lately and no cough im more inclined to think it is my allergies now that i think just it started a week that i smoked more than usual aka spring break.

If I say so? I don't say so, but my doctorate says so. Why so condescending? You act like doctors can't be on the internet, especially on sites they enjoy and can't comment on topics they enjoy and possibly are experts in. While I agree that he needs to see someone in person, I also think if he knows possibly what he has or something he can clarify to the doc when he sees em, then he'll be better off. MD's are rarely thorough with this stuff and typically miss any biomechanical, somatovisceral, or viscerosomatic issues that could possibly be the cause of his symptoms. I love helping people with the knowledge I know just as so many people here do it with hookah. Without everyone here, I'd still be using quicklights, egyptian bowls, ice in the vase and would never have heard of tangiers tobacco or tang phunnel bowls. He posted a general topic that I became interested in and thought I could try to dig up some info about his problem...is that so wrong?

And actually, part of my [near future] business is going to be giving natural advice online (there is an open market/niche that myself and a fellow doc are going to tap into). I'm an entrepreneur, I've created an online business when I was 19 and turned it into a 6 figure business...all while I was in undergrad. I then went on to grad school since the online market fluctuates and I wanted something more sustainable and consistent. I fell in love with chiropractic and haven't looked back since.

I recently moved to Florida and right now I'm looking for a partner, but in the mean time (like...tomorrow), I'm going down to Deerfield, FL to treat some UFC fighters. While I could care less if you don't believe me, you asked what my practice consists of, and I'm not going to lie about not being in a single practice right now. I treat on the whim. People I know and people who know people I know that I treat will come to me while I work on finding a partner or waiting to save enough money up to open my own practice, likely 20-30 min north of Deerfield so it's close enough for the UFC fighters, and other athletes they know to come see me (as the technique that I do is rather rare and when people are exposed to it, they fall in love with it and want to be treated with it...this UFC opportunity was not a door I opened but one in which my friend who use to be a fighter opened for me, and since he doesn't live near here but visits and treats his old UFC buddies, he was the one that got me in contact with them). Although I don't like the typical "I have a pain" patients, I like to treat odd stuff, especially stuff MD's can't figure out. Time and time again I witness so called "medical miracles" right on my table, all without the use of medication (which only masks symptoms and doesn't fix problems).

I picked my current name (DrSmokes) because I didn't want my online persona to be followed here. When you build a big website (40,000+ unique visitors a day on a message board), people know who you are and try to attack you for being the best in the niche...the online world is a ruthless cruel world and I wanted some anonymity here. So instead of using my actually online identity, I wanted to create a new one here that would fit on this site. I'm a doctor who smokes, hence Doctor Smokes.

I doubt that explaining myself has done much, but getting it out there gets such conversation off my mind.

I'd say give your lungs a rest and consult a doc in your area. He'll listen to your lungs and possibly give you chest xrays. He/she can then get a better idea of what may be going on with you but I think taking a rest for 2-3 weeks might prove to you whether it's smoking related or not.

You wanted to know what the forum thought. We are telling you that we think this should solely be handled by a professional. Would you rather have people who are not qualified to help you at all giving you half-assed suggestions about health?

Look, I don't want you to be upset.

I'm sure you have enough self confidence that you don't really care what I think anyway.

Good for you on what you've accomplished. I didn't intend my above posts to be an attack on those accomplishments.

I would never be able to confirm or deny what you've said, nor do I have any interest to do so. But I'll take you at your word.

Just remember that how you've decided to present your online persona can and may have a huge impact on the lives of others. What you say goes a long way. I hope you are able to shoulder that responsibility in a manner where the well being of others is your primary objective.
