CO_hookah
So, I have a friend from Jordan, and we were talking tonight while smoking, and somehow the topic of hookah back in Jordan came up. He said back there people would cheat when they make their bowls and use a mixture of clay and concrete. I would assume since concrete is porous it would be terrible for heat management. But, my question is has anyone heard of this? And have you ran across them?

â€On
The porosity of concrete comes down to how it is mixed and whether or not it is vibrated to remove air entrapped in it. If properly mixed, it could be a cheap and most likely effective method of making lots of bowls.
The way he described it was people would use a 50/50 mixture because concrete was cheaper, but he said they were awful bowls. He said it was like comparing Chinese phunnels (the concrete bowls) and Tang phunnels (generic Egyptian bowls)

Are you saying they were mixing concrete mix with clay? That would almost seem like it would cause more problems than help, but IDK.
casts wouldt work bc there is the concave "bowl" to work with. a cast of a solid bell shape would be easy with some wet sand and an egyption bowl (think sand castle). or plaster in the sand castle. then sement in the plaster
