Coming Back To Hookah, Need Help

Recommended Posts

So after a very bad breakup (together 7 years, we learned to smoke hookah together), and giving up all of our shared stuff, I'm finally ready to start smoking again and am looking to buy a pipe. I already know generally what pipe I want, but what I'm stuck on is the bowl! So I turn to the community!

What the hottest thing around right now as far as bowls go? I used to primarily smoke from a Super Chief and that seemed to be what a lot of people wanted at the time, so that's my frame of reference. Can you guys make a suggestion for me? I appreciate it!

I would recommend you get a Tangiers Small phunnel bowl for use with juicier tobacco's and an unglazed Elmas bowl for use with drier tobacco's.

Edit: Welcome back to the club, btw! Edited by aeon

Sorry about the breakup, man. Very sad to hear. :(

But welcome back. I remember you and it's great to have you back! :)

Right now, the best bowl on the market overall is still the Tangiers Small Phunnel. The Tangiers Pico Phunnel, which is smaller than the Mini, is due to hit sometime soon (please understand we are talking Eric time when I say soon, haha), and this should be a great bowl for short sessions. Other bowls I recommend is the Elmas Turkish bowl as a good standard bowl. The Elmas bowl is a male one, though, meaning it won't fit hookahs that have the male bowl port. I think 5StarHookah.com still has the female version of it, however. So that's something to look into. If anything, just stick with a good ol' clay Egyptian bowl. Can't go wrong with that. But really, the Tangiers Small Phunnel is the only bowl you really need, as you can make anything smoke good out of it. So starting out, that's all I would bother getting for now.

What hookah you getting?

Thanks for all the info everyone

Yeah, I remember talking to you, too. I'll probably go with the Small Phunnel then. Never even heard of the Elmas bowls, but I shouldn't need more than one bowl to start anyway.

As far as the hookah, I'm probably going to go with a Mya again, but the KMs do intrigue me. Way I see it though, I'm thoroughly satisfied with the Myas so I see no reason to change.

Maybe you should take the situation as a sign to try something new. There are a lot of great pipes out there that might have you rethinking your position on a mya.

Is the smoking quality between the Mya and the KM about the same, or do you think one smokes better than the other?

I'm kind of digging this KM hard:

KM has a more open draw due to a wider diameter downstem and hose port, whereas the Mya will be a bit more restrictive. Both smoke well, just have different levels of restrictiveness. After about 3 years of smoking and owning various pipes, I have determined I prefer a tighter draw, so I only own Syrian hookahs now. Others prefer open, like what KM, Farida, Temsah, etc., have to offer.

So basically it comes down to aesthetics, and if you prefer a slightly restrictive or less restrictive draw. IMO.

I have a mya and I love it for how good it smokes and how easy it is to clean. However, what bothers me sometimes about it is that I find it slightly leaking, and then I have to locate the leak and unscrew the part and screw it again. The threads are still as good as new, but I guess one is bound to start leaking eventually with so many parts that screw together.

Now may be something is wrong with my hookah but this is my experience. Smokes good, easy to clean, but I have to do a leak test every time I set it up because I don't want to have to fix it in mid-session if it's leaking from somewhere.

I say try a solid, sturdy, one piece hookah for a change if all you've ever used are myas. Sure you know you like myas, but you may like a KM more. Variety is the spice of life after all, and I am yet to see someone who bought a km and was disappointed with it. Edited by vendetta_revived

Welcome back man. I'd say stick with what you are comfortable with. You like a Mya, get a Mya. You like a Tangiers bowl, go with a Tangiers bowl. Most of the "new" stuff these days is just variations on the same old themes.
