taylormac1993
Hey guys & gals. I've always wanted to make a steel braided hookah hose that was washable. Problem is, steel rusts. A lot. So should I use aluminum? Stainless steel? What's going to be the cheapest and/or easiest to cut? What's the most durable? Thanks in advance! â€On
Use whatever you want, and then line it with medical grade silicone tubing. You're not washing the outside of the hose.
taylormac1993
True, but when you wash the hose, the outside tends to get wet too. I'd rather play it safe, but I like the medical silicone idea. Is that stuff pretty expensive?
â€On
To be honest, the whole idea isn't very appealing to me. Metal braided hose is far too stiff for my liking; stiff hoses bring all sorts of problems (god, sometimes these jokes just write themselves). Silicone is about 4-5 times the cost of vinyl tubing, but there isn't a better material for hookah hoses. It is flexible, tasteless and odorless, washes easily and will not hold flavors or smells as easily, durable, etc. If you can find some that is at least 1/2' ID you will be golden. Personally, I like 5/8" ID hoses if you are doing a DIY. I would also recommend making the hose around 5 feet long (possibly longer if you are doing braided). It gives the hose room to do what it naturally does without you worrying about tipping your pipe over with kinks and bends.
mushrat
braided brake lines. already have ends you can screw things into.
taylormac1993
I didn't even think about the flexibility.... Could I use JUST silicone or is it too flexible? I don't want any kinks or suction collapses. How much do you think a 4' length of 5/8" - 3/4" silicone tubing would run me?
Judy Oma
A google search is a good bet - thickness of the tubing wall varies too.
