brookesaywhatx
Hello all as most of you know I got a new Mya, and I need some tips on how to clean it. What I usually do with it when I'm done is empty the base water, rinse the base out, clean the bowl with water, and dump the ashtray. I know this can't be a good way to clean it lol, I don't want it to rust....how should I clean it? With soap and water every time? It just seems like a hassle to do that every single time I smoke, but I wanna take care of my hookah lol. How do I dry the base/inside of the bowl after I rinse it? I feel like putting it away wet could damage it... & do I have to clean my hose every time? Its washable to the best of my knowledge.. but idk how to dry it so I don't want it to get moldy hellppppp
vendetta_revived
How you clean the vase and the bowl seems alright. I don't clean my bowls with soap ever (glazed bowls don't really ghost that much, and till recently, I used a glass bowl and it didn't ghost at all). I do clean the vase with lemon juice if it gets ghosted after I've smoked a real bad ghosting flavour. Otherwise, it gets washed with lemon juice about once in a week. You didn't say how you wash your stem? Don't tell me you don't. With my qt, I take it apart after almost every smoke and run hot water through the parts and wipe em with paper towels and blow out any excess water. Once a weak I wash it with a stem brush and lemon juice. It's not much of a hassle really, but may be because qt is really small. But I imagine you pretty much have to do that with a large mya as well. Edited June 18, 2012 by vendetta_revived
brookesaywhatx
No I don't wash the stem, I didn't know I had to the stem on my hookah is 3 parts by itself lol so it would be kind of annoying, but I will do what you do!
Cp44
I always wash my hookah after every smoke session. My daily hookah is a Mya Acryllic and it takes literally 5 minutes to do a good cleaning. I usually run hot water through the stem and vase. Then run the stem brush a few times. For your hose, rinse with hot water and hang dry it won't mold. It literally takes just 5-10 minutes to do.

Oops I just cleaned my whole hookah the way you said and put it away.. the base smells like two apples so I should probably use lemon juice! It takes me like 15-20 just to set my hookah up. I'm learning LOL

What I do is to fill the base halfway with water and then give it a good shake and repeat this a couple times. It takes me that long as well to set it up, but now it's like a ritual. I find it to be a rather calming experience actually, but I am weird like that.
mustang67n
Yeah, stick to what Vimal said as far as cleaning goes, and you should be alright. What hose do you have? I'd suggest NOT cleaning it at all unless you are 100% certain it's washable (only certain ones are) If you post a picture of it, I'm sure someone can identify it as washable or non-washable relatively easily
brookesaywhatx
Its a nogoom hose, let me find a link..... http://5starhookah.com/Nogoom-Pink-Hose-NPHO.htm It is washable, and the mouthpiece comes off so i could clean it lol
mustang67n
oh yeah, definitely not a problem. I only wash my washable hoses when they start to ghost. Usually I just rinse them out with just water really good. If they're really ghosted, i'll use lemon juice and water.
Arcane
I only skimmed the posts, but I'm not sure if you said you own a vase and stem brush. I'd say these are practically necessary. With enough use, a film will probably start developing inside the vase and stem. A brush will aid in removing said film and give you greater results than just water alone. Water should be good for most days and depending on frequency of use, I'd go with a lemon juice and baking soda wash once or twice a month. brookesaywhatx
I don't have a brush but I could pick one up thanks for the advice everyone!
atalanta
I don't know if you have a Dollar Tree where you are, but I picked up a baby bottle brush that has a wide end and a short end. They work great for the base and hose fittings. Try also aquarium supply and home brewing supply places. While you're at the dollar store, grab a few bottles of lemon juice. It does work wonders on "stinky stuff" I don't smoke daily, so washing it after isn't a big deal for me. I let it sit on the dishrack at least overnight before I put it back in its nice box. Epoch
As for your question about drying: I just leave the wet bowl, tray, shaft, and vase in the dishwasher strainer to air dry.
mushrat
dont wash the hose unless you have to and i suggest cold water. Hot water may dissolve the glue holding the plastic lining around the coiuls in a mya. NOTE washable does NOT mean rust free. A Mya hose will rust. The more you wash it, the faster it will rust. Pavo21
For cleaning I use water and lemon or lime juice on my stems and vases and I have a lot of mya's a good brush for the stem is a trumpet cleaner they r cheap from a music store better then the km brushes. I never use soap just me I don't want to leave a little on accident and have it in my pipe.

Santino
For a mya make sure to focus your cleaning effort on the inner heart. That is the downside to them, they have a pocket where the downstem threads in that gets very gunky. Also, use beer to clean. Hefeweizen works beautifully, the more yeast the better. SundayFundaysTV
I wash my hookahs out once a week, what I do is alternate the hookahs depending on what I'm going to smoke 1 mint, 1 fruit flavors, and 1 2 apple flavor, after each week I'll take the brushes to them with lemon juice for the steams, for the vases lemon juice and sea salt for the texture better clean that "grim/staining" that happens in the vases with a brush, with my hoses I use fancy hoses again 1 for each hookah with the flavor, I think they are great disposable/wash hoses because they are easy to clean, after about a month with those, I'll buy new ones and repeat the same process. Teganv
As for your question about drying: I just leave the wet bowl, tray, shaft, and vase in the dishwasher strainer to air dry.
Yeah, I do something similar I don't have a dishwasher at my place so I leave them in the air dry rack over night but I do wipe down the outside and any insides I can reach for the stem and the tray. Also for the stem, I have a system where I take a rubber band and use that to hold the stem almost upright, still slanted though so it's not sitting completely horizontally. It just seems to me that although remaining water will vaporize, it drys quicker when it can trickle out. The towl I put under it does noticeably have water on it so I just stick with that. I can take a picture of what I am talking about once I get back into town. I'm not sure if it would be a bad thing to use one of those compressed air cans to dry out the inside of a stem, so I would look for feedback about that. If your worried about rusting that could help or there could be science jargon I don't really understand that could explain why that would be bad. The only other thing I can suggest and it did wonders for me when I had a small sink and couldn't fit my stem under the faucet, if you take one of those oil bottles that they have in restaurants (I think I got mine at Walmart). They look like this. You can use that to clean your stem since the spout usually fits into either end and the hose port, I use this to clean my hose too. I just mixed the water and lime juice in that and poor it into the stem or hose and shake the mixture around a bit, I do that a couple times, then I rinse the bottle out and put water in that to rinse out the stem and hose. I do use brushes though, for my base and stem, so it's always just run lemon juice and water through em and brush them then rinse them and set them out to dry. (this post turned into a much longer post then I intended, sorry) Edited June 24, 2012 by Teganv
