PhatBeezie
I use a screen but I have never used just foil , I herd it works good but I dont know how to load it, I have herd wrap foil all around the bowl and poke holes and set the coal on top , or I have herd the way where you just use the foil as a screen , What works better and does it work as good or better as a screen ? aronparsons
It's personal preference. Some people say one smokes better than the other; I've had luck with both but prefer foil. Wrap the head in foil and poke a series of holes. Experiment with a bunch of tiny holes (push-pin sized) or fewer larger holes. I usually do 10-15 holes with the poker that comes with most tongs. cymptom
Screens are rather convenient, but foil will always provide you with a greater degree of control.
EvansLight
i personally love the screens. I used to use foil at first, but i sucked at getting the holes right. Its always good to learn foil first, and get good at that. Then you can just get lazy and use screens
DownZero
It's all about preference... everything about hookah is pretty much just preference. Foil does offer a little more control while screens offer convenience. I don't mind using both... but for Tangiers, I'll use foil.

mushrat
screen all the way, no harder to control heat than with foil, just takes practice, like foil.if you have and like a screen, why bother with foil? except for a chimney/wind screen?

nuschultz
Looks good. I recategorized it and added the foil link again, but it looks much better now.
Sonthert
Foil better. Glass screens stay hot too long, overdamp the control system...ie you put too much charcoal on...it takes longer fro the glass to cool of, burning your tobacco the whole time.
