Coil Burners , Urgh

Recommended Posts

Been searching for these in UK for ages and never found one, have to burn my coals on the gas cooker and it takes a good 20-30 minutes which gets annoying, went to Spain and had a hot plate in my apartment, was a bit quicker but they dont light them properly, the coals burn and turn red and then turn cold and white after 10 minutes,

I have found another good reason to live in Thailand. They have coil burners in any corner store.

They sell coil burners in Thailand? That's fucking awesome, I'm going there in December, and I'll definitely pick one up on my trip there ! Could you recommend any stores that would sell them ? Any bigger stores? Also, how much do they cost around there ?

Am I the only person who just puts coals on the stove?? Why use a coil burner?

Light your coals in the room, and much faster - A cure for the lazy and impatient (when it comes to me :D), more portable (relatively), and cheap. Also, coals can damage glass stove tops from what I understand.

Ah I see. I use my glass top stove. i haven't been smoking as long as all of you but not hurting anything so far. Quick lights might dmg your stove since they spark and are gross when they light lol.
But coconara's are good to go on my stove in 8-10 minutes. Edited by bruceg

Yeah, and chances are that it will get damaged in some time...it may take a while, but it will because I remember Stuie (you will hear that name a lot here, haha) posting that he damaged his. In the end, replacing a coil burner is relatively a much more inexpensive option.

The walgreens ones suck...mine is about dead...my friends and I have been through many
[/quote]

Well I can't comment on that because we don't have Walgreens here. Mine cost me about $20 and it is all metal. Been using it multiple times every day since the last 2 years and I have only replaced the coil on it once and that cost me another $6,

I always use the Walgreens ones. Mine got beat up pretty bad (because thats how I roll). The knob fell off, the white plastic on all four sides started cracking, there were coals burns on it, the hot plate itself started disintegrating. So I threw it away and now that I'm still barely using electricity I'm think about trying to find a solar powered one. Yeah apparently they exist! Who knew... I have 0 experience with anything solar powered so I don't know, will it actually get hot enough to light a coal???

If solar power can power people's entire houses, assuming it's GOOD quality, I'm sure it will!
