Scalliwag
My heatgun took a dive and I have a better one anyways... so I dissected that bitch!!! It does not fit over the edge of the foil, but it sits on the foil farther than I poke the holes to the edge anyway. It is very effective and it will polish up nice. All I have to do now is make a handle to take it on and off.

DizzyGuy
ghetto rig a clamp to clamp it to the bowl?
Scalliwag
shoudlnt wind covers save your coals from falling off? it just looks kind of unstable.
It's pretty bottom heavy and it is actually sitting on the inner lip of the bowl. That is hard to tell because of the foil, but it's stable. It's also stainless steel so the whole piece is heavy for the size.
DizzyGuy
Hmmm... does it make the hookah much more top heavy? Falling hookahs = sadness
Scalliwag
Hmmm... does it make the hookah much more top heavy? Falling hookahs = sadness
Na, it's not that heavy. But it's not real light like if it was aluminum. It would take a nasty gust of wind to blow it off. The way the diameter reduces shortly above the coal is pretty nice. It leaves room for the coals but concentrates the heat to a smaller chamber. I only needed one coal for a pretty good while though. Joseph
Thats amazing, my windcover creations have been limited to crappy alumin foil jobs that keep out big gusts of wind, but do not provide coal security.

mushrat
Not to mention the noxious fumes from the heating paint on the aluminium can....
methodical13
You know,I thought about that... but I only made that thing once and so far no ill effects. I mean, sure I sometimes forget my own name and black out at random, but I'm pretty sure thats from the excessive alchoholism and intravenious drugs.edit: that last comment was a joke for those with no sense of humor... Scalliwag
At least the paint is on the outside of the can so you should not be inhaling anything directly from through the hookah. That is as long as they do not spray a liner on the inside of the can. I would look at that.Aluminum is not as conductive as steel that is why they use it for heatsinks. It will absorb heat and dissipate it pretty fast. Since it is so thin I doubt it is getting very hot. The room temp on the outside of the can is keeping the temp of the bowl from getting it real hot. Hence I doubt the paint with get hot enough to put off fumes. But that's "Scallience" which is drunken theory

Scalliwag
I think we should definately get a DIY forum up and running lol.
Yep we should. I am going to use the electronics from the heat gun and make a heating element from a recoil spring from the pull start of a lawn mower and add a potentiometer to control the heat. I have seen shisha heaters and I am not real sure how they work but I have not heard good things about them on the forum. If you look at the element in the cigarette light in a car and think bigger, that's a lot like I am talking about. I'm definately never using it by the hot tub though no matter how good it works!!! Fried Scalli anyone?
