In The Market For A New Hookah. Which One?

Recommended Posts

Well.. my hookah that I got from lebanon 11 years ago was stolen. I need to find a replacement. My budget is about $60 dollars. I would like this hookah to be large. I want to find the best hookah I can for my price range. Thank you.

Since you had a Lebanese, you're going to want another one like it, I'm guessing... Only place I know of that had (good) Lebs was Kasbah.us. I wonder if he could get more in. If not Syrian hookahs offer a similar draw, but those are going to be out of your price range. I'd just hit up Mark at Kasbah and see if he can't find you something in your price range.

Khalil Mamoons and other pipes are going to have a wide open draw, something you won't be used to.

To ensure you stay within the $60 limit, you can never go wrong with a Mya. It'll draw about like your Leb did. Take a look at the first four on this page: http://www.myahookah.com/classic-hookahs.aspx

Ugh i hate myas. I will never understand why they get so many props. They are nothing compared to a good leb pipe imo.

I'd say if you want something comparable to that Leb and within your price range, search the trade/fs section and other classified-type websites. Or increase your budget and get it new.

I must disagree Katie. The Mya is a solid pipe, far better built than most you get as long as you don't go for an econo, and most Mya's will outlast any traditional Leb pipe you can find with the same level of use.

$60 you could get a Magdy Zidan or a Mya.
Prolly your two best bets for a hookah in that price range.

Not gonna link any Mya's as tons of hookah sites sell Mya's.

Also, if you decide on a Khalil Mamoon, sometimes there's cheap ones on eBay. Unfortunately none within your budget at the moment. :( Someone could post one soon, though. Caravan Trading used to sell them on there all the time, with pretty nice bases, too. They'll be your standard "cafe" style models (usually the Amer or Hafa), all stainless steel, hollow in construction typically. Higher end KMs are more solid and are often made with materials other than stainless, such as brass and copper (lots of trimetal models out there).

I agree with what Mush said about Mya Saray hookahs, and is why I recommend them when someone is looking for a good budget hookah. Each one I have owned has treated me right. I would still own one, but I just prefer more traditional pipes. As Mush said, just make sure you avoid the Econos. IMO, Mya shouldn't even be making them, as they're just garbage, and tarnishes their reputation.

Here's some good Myas I found on eBay for ya:

(all Luna models, not sure why there's a bunch of those and no other models right now, haha)

If you go a little above your budget, the vase on this one is very interesting (may be a bohemian, not really sure): http://www.ebay.com/...=item3a78023091

I am with you Mush, my QT is pretty old and it smokes and looks like the first day I bought it.

My Obelisk is my second Favorite Pipe, First now is my KM OG Tri, but my Gelato Grande is freaking awesome too.

Ok yeah. My distain for myas is unique. I just can't stand them. >.<

But yeah, any standard Egyptian is good. Those caravan ones are fine.

Let us not forget the Goza :) KM construction, wide open draw, and you can throw it down the stairs and not have to worry about to breaking! Perfect! Also packs well in a pocketbook or suitcase....

Let it be known that for the most part, Lebanese pipes have a more open draw than Syrians. (Still nothing on Egyptians though)
I've always been led to believe they were closer to Syrians or Mya in terms of draw? Or are they closer to Egyptians? 'Bout halfway in between? I don't want to be spreading false knowledge out there, why I ask. Perhaps I'll still yet try a Leb one of these days...

My dad is gonna try to snag one for me when he goes to Lebanon in a couple weeks. I unfortunately can't go with him as 3 weeks away is too long of a time away from the business especially when it's prime time to re stock on orders for the holiday season.
